Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 8, 1916.
Application filed January 10, 1914. Serial No. 811,501.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NELSON L. Jnoonos, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of West Orange, Essex county, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Memorandum- Holders, of which the following is a specification. 4
This invention relates to improvements in holding devices for memorandum pads, calendar pads and the like.
More particularly this invention relates to a memorandum holder of the kind which is produced by punching and cutting a suitable metal blank and thereafter bending certain portions of the blank to form supporting or holding members for a memorandum pad.
The object of the invention is to provide a memorandum holder adapted to securely hold a pad of paper and embodying certain novel features of construction in the cutting and bending of the blank resulting in the production of an article of great utility.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing and described in the following specification while the novel features thereof are pointed out in the claims.
In the said drawing: Figure 1 is a view of the blank showing the lines of severance between the various parts constituting the holder. Fig. 2 is a side view of the holder, and Fig. 3 is a front view thereof.
The numeral 4 denotes a blank of suitable sheet metal and substantially rectangular shaped, provided at the front end with a finger cut out portion Front supporting lugs 6 are obtained by cutting the blank on the lines 7, 7. Similarly the blank is cut on the lines 8, 8 to provide forward side supporting lugs 9, 9. The blank is further out along the line 10 to provide a preferably oval shaped top supporting member 11 which is connected with the base 12 of the holder by a neck 13 obtained by cutting along the lines 14, 14 in continuation of the line 10. Rear side lugs 15, 15 are obtained by cutting the blank on the lines 16, 16, which, it will be noted, are concentric to the lines 14: leaving intervening portions 17 between the rear side lugs and the neck of the top member. By this arrangement the rear side lugs 15 will be of a height equal to that of the forward side lugs 9 and resiliency in the top member is obtained due to the narrowing of the neck 13. At the sametime, the top member 11 itself may be made quite large so as to provide a place for suitable ornamentation or inscription and without weakening the base 12.
Figs. 2 and 3 show the finished holder which is produced by bending the several lugs at right angles to the base along the dotted lines in Fig. 1. The top holding member is bent along the base line 18 to form the upstanding neck 13 and again bent forwardly on the line 19 to form a top member 11, which may be dished as shown.
The pad is held within the lugs and the neck 13 and below the top member 11. The cut out finger portion 5 is of use in provid* ing a place for the finger below the pad when the latter is being inserted.
What is claimed, is:
1. A pad holder made from a blank of sheet material comprising: a base member, a member cut from the base and bent to form a relatively large concaved top member substantially parallel to the base and connected thereto by a relatively narrow resilient neck portion at right angles to said base, the relatively narrow neck portion leaving comparatively large areas in said base between said neck portion and the lateral edges of said base to provide material from which lateral pad retaining holders are formed, and supporting strips in said base portion between said lugs and neck portion.
2. A pad holder made from a blank of sheet material comprising: a base portion, a member cut from the base and bent to form a relatively large concaved top member substantially parallel to the base at one end thereof and connected thereto by a relatively narrow resilient neck portion at right angles to the base, the relatively narrow neck portion leaving comparatively large areas in said base between said neck portion and the lateral edges of said base to provide material from which lateral retaining lugs are formed, supporting strips in said base portion between said lugs and neck portion, New York, this 8th day' of January, D.
