Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, AUoUsr IV. LAABS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Appleton, in the county State of isconsin, have invented a new and useful Milking Stool and Pail Holder, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a milking stool formed of band metal with a fabric seat and band metal pail holder, which forms a folding stool of light weight and is convenient for use and is so formed and secured together as to be capable of being easily taken apart and packed into a small package that can be sent by mail under the new parcels post law.

The invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which,

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the stool opened for use and representing in dotted lines, a pail within the holder. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same, the pail being omitted. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the stool from its rear end. F 4: is an end view of the seat holding irons and a fragment of the seat held by them, upon a larger scale than the other figures. Fig. 5 is a horizontal section of the pail holder as is shown in Fig. 1, upon a smaller scale.

1, indicates the rear legs of the pairs of legs, each leg of which consists of a straight piece of band metal, its lower end bent inward at a right angle and forming a foot 2, each piece having formed therein toward its upper end a slot 3, for a purpose to be described. The forward legs at, are formed of band metal, but are of an angular form, one angle being formed in each leg near the pivotal point, where each one is connected to one of the legs 1 with a rivet- 5, and another angle is made at 6, from which point the legs are nearly vertical when opened for use. A foot 2 is formed upon the lower end of each leg and a slot 7, vertically of each leg, with in which slots a rod 8, is adjust-ably secured with nuts 9, for supporting a pail. Spacing and connecting rods 10, are secured near the lower ends of the legs at the front and rear, the one at the front being curved inward for providing space upon the rod for a pail. The upper ends of the legs are provided with slots 11, for the hinging therein of the pail holding arms and for their vertical adjustment therein. At their upper ends the legs of Outagamie and.

are connected together with similar half tubular pieces 12, which are flattened near their ends and bent at a right angle and extend downward, the angular ends 13, being secured to the legs with bolts 14. The seat for the stool is formed of a fabric 15, which may be doubled at its ends and is clamped between the half round pieces 16, and the pieces 12, with bolts 17. The pail holding device is formed of a lighter quality of band metal than that forming the legs, and may consist of a single piece, 18, as is shown in Figs. 1 and 5, or be of two pieces 18*, and 18 as is shown in Fig. 2. In the former, a rod 19, is inserted in slots 20, in opposite pail holder arms and is movable lengthwise of the slots for holding pails of different diameter between it and the circular end of the holder, it being secured therein with nuts 21 and 22. In the latter, the outer ends of the arms are curved and provided with slots 23, and with securing bolts 24, and as the pail holding space can be varied by lapping the ends of arms 18, more or less, the rod 19 need not be made movable lengthwise of the arms. The rear ends of the arms are provided with slots 25, through which they are hinged to the legs 4, through said slots and the slots 11, in the legs, with bolts 26, so that those ends of the arms can be moved longitudinally and vertically. A supporting device, such as the bolt 27, is secured in the slots 3 in the legs for regulating the height of the free ends of the pail holder arms.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,

1. A folding milking stool and pail holder, comprising two similar pairs of legs formed of band metal, suitable feet for the legs, the two pairs of legs being hinged together intermediate the ends of the legs and each leg being provided with a slot lengthwise thereof near their upper ends, a slot extending from each forward foot upward, a pail supporting rod adjustably secured from one of said slots to the other, suitable tie and spacing rods between each, the two front and two rear legs, a seat carrying member connecting the upper ends of both, the front and rear legs, a fabric seat secured to said members and limiting the spreading apart of the front and rear legs, a pail holder formed of band metal and arranged below and in front of the seat, bent for encircling a pail and adapted for supporting pails of different diameter, its straight ends being provided with slots longitudinally thereof and hing-ed through said slots to the aforesaid longitudinally arranged leg slots under the seat at its rear, and suit-able members arranged in the forward leg slots for adjust-ably supporting the forward end of the pail holder.

In a milking stool, a pail holder therefor, consisting of two similar arms of band metal, hinged to the rear part of the stool and longitudinally adjustable upon their hinge members, a rod connecting and spacspace between said curved ends and the aforesaid connectingrod.
