MILKING-STOOL.
Application filed October 3, 1914.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, DENT A. VANDEVEER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Creighton, in the county of Knox and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milking-Stools, of which the following is'a specification, reference being had to the accompanying draw in s.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in stools and more particularly to a combined stool and pail holder adapted to be used by farmers and dairymen, the main object of the present invention being the provision of a device of the above character whereby a pail may be supported while a person is milking the cow and at the same time provides a suitable seat for the milker.
Another object of the present invention is the provision of a device of the above character which will possess advantages in points of efficiency and durability, is inexpensive to manufacture and, at the same time, is simple in construction and operation.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claims.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved stool and milk pail supporter. Fig. 2 is a side elevation; and Fig. 3 is a top plan view.
In carrying out my invention, I provide the supporting legs 1 and 2, the leg 1 being arranged at one end of the device, While the legs 2 are arranged in spaced relation at the other end of the device. These supporting legs are securely held in an upright position against lateral movement by means of the lower brace members 3. The legs 2 constitute a portion of the stool, which supports the seat 4.
Mounted upon the upper ends of the sup porting leg 1 and secured thereto, is a ring 5, one edge of which rests upon the supporting leg 1, while the opposed edge is supported by means of the brace member 6 which extends downwardly to one edge of the seat 4 and is secured thereto, as shown at 7. This brace member 6 then extends downwardly and is secured to the supporting leg Specification of Letters Patent.

' Serial No. 864,875.
1, at a point where the brace members 3 meet the same. From this it will be apparent that the inner edge of the ring 5 is supported and the seat at is also retained in a horizontal position. In order to further support the ring 5, a pair of spaced horizontal brace members 8 are provided, the upper ends of which are arranged beneath the ring 5 at opposite points thereon.
It will be'noted that after the brace members 8 have been arranged in position and the upper ends secured to the ring 5, these brace members will extend downwardly and be secured to the supporting leg 2 at a point where the brace members 3 connect thereto. From this it will be apparent that the pail supporting ring 5 and the seat 4 are securely retained in their effective positions. In order to support milk pails of various sizes Within the ring 5, I provide a spring member 9 which is substantially arcuate in shape,
one end thereof being rigidly secured to the inner surface of the ring 5, as shown at 10, while the other end thereof is attached to a movable block 11, said block having a longitudinal bore adapted to receive the ring 5 and to be slidably mounted thereon.
In order to secure the block 11 in various adjusted positions, I provide a set screw 12 which is carried by the block and extends through the same to engage with the ring 5, so that the spring member 9 can be quickly and readily adjusted to engage the outer surface of milk pails of various sizes.
It will be apparent from the foregoing de scription taken in connection with the accompanying drawing that I have provided a simple and durable device whereby the milker is provided with a suitable seat and, at the same time, the milk pail may be supported in an operative position, so that the milker can use both hands during the operation. It will also be apparent that various size milk pails may be supported within the ring 5 and can be quickly and readily placed therein or removed. My improved device, as herein shown and described, is extremely simple in construction and can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a comparatively low cost.
While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice, without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the invention, as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus described this invention, What I claim is v i A milking stool including spaced standards, a seat mounted upon the upper ends of said standards, a supporting leg arranged in spaced relation with the standards, a pail supporting ring having one edge thereof mounted upon the leg, divergent brace members havingone of their ends connected to the supporting leg and their other ends to each of the standards, including brace members having their other ends connected with the pail supporting ring and their lower ends connected to the spaced'standards, and V a second brace member having its upper end connected with the pail supporting ring opposite the supporting leg and thence inclined rearwardly and connected With the seat, thence inclined forwardly and connected to the supporting leg at a point adjacent the connection of the divergent'brace members, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
A. J. LUNEBlJRG, M. A. GALLEY.
