Description

J. B. SARGENT.
Gri ndstone Journal Box.
Patented Aug. d6, 1870.
, UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
JOSEPH B. SARGENT, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN GRINDSTONE-JOURNAL BOXES.
Specilication forming part of Letters Patent No. 106,510. dated August 16,1870.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JosEPH B. SARGENT, of
T New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Grindstone-Journal Boxes; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon,to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in
Figure 1, a side View; Fig. 2, a top View; Fig. 3, a vertical central section; and in Figs. 4 and 5,detached views.
This invention relates to an improvement in the manner of securing the cover to the journal-box of grindstones; and it consists in the arrangement of a turnbutton upon the base, over which. in one position, the slotted end of the cover passes, and is secured bythe turning of the button to a transverse position, the other end of the cover being secured by a hooked hinge.
A is the base; B B, two rolls of common construction and arrangement. 0, the cover,
is formed at one end with a hooked flange, a, so as to set under a corresponding flange, (Z. The other end of the cover is slotted, as at D, Fig. 4, so as to pass down overa turn-button, E, as seen in Fig. 5, and when set over the turn-button, as in Fig. 2, the button E may be turned to the right or left, clamping the cover to the base.
The object of the cover, as in other journalboxes, is to protect the rolls from dust or dirt to which they would otherwise be exposed.
I do not wish to be understood as broadly claiming the employment of the turn-button E,working through a slot, so as to secure two articles together, as such is not new.
I claim as my invention The cover 0, attached to the base A by means of a hooked flange, a, and secured by the turn-button E,working over the slot D, substantially as described.
