RUDOLF BORBERG', OF ELBERFELD, GERMANY.
BRACES, SUSPENDERS, AND THE LIKE.
Application filed August 21, 1912.
To all whom if may concern Be it known that I, RUDoLr BoRBnnG, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Elberfeld, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Braces, Suspenders, and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to braces, suspenders and the like, having looped cords detachably connected to the straps.
A primary object of my invention is to provide improved braces or suspenders of this type which differ from those known heretofore in that, for attaching the looped cords to the ends of the straps, a loop or tape, leather or the like able to be closed by a hook is arranged at the end of each strap. This arrangement enables the looped cords to be readily detached and, in addition, has the advantage that the attaching device, he sides being very durable, can be made very flat, so that the trousers can be comfortably worn.
One illustrative embodiment of my invention is represented by way of example in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure l is a front elevation showing a front end of my improved suspenders having a closed attaching loop for the looped cord, Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line A-A in Fig. l, and Fig. 3 is a front elevation showing the attaching loop open.
In the illustrative embodiment a designates the front end of the strap of the susponders turned back to form a loop adjustable in length by means of the clamp Z). In this end of the strap is suspended the wire link a, to which a small metal plate (Z is pivotally connected, and one end of a narrow, double piece of tape is attached. The middle portion of the small plate (Z is formed as a resilient hook g stamped out of said plate, which hook has an outwardly bulged or expanded lower part and an inwardly presented upper tip, the plane of the nearest part of said tip being at a less distance from the plane of said plate than the thickness of bar m of keeper 7c, hereinafter described. Said hook is of course resilient. Below the said hook is a slot h, the lowest part of the plate being located between the two layers of the tape f. Attached to the free end of the tape or band f serving for Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 17, 1913.
Serial No. 716,255.
the attachment of the looped cord 6 is a sheet-metal eyelet or keeper 70 having a projecting middle bar m and slots at each side of said bar, so that it can be hooked over the hook g in the manner shown in Figs. 1 and 2, when the tape f is formed into a loop, in which the looped cord 2' is held.
It is obvious that the resiliency and construction of the hook 9 will prevent the accidental displacement of the bar m therefrom, by reason of the fact that the normal interval between the tip of said hook and said plate is less than the thickness of said bar. The bar therefore, in order to pass between the tip of said hook and said plate and off of the former, must be pulled or shoved with sufficient force to overcome the resiliency of the hook g, and this can not be done accidentally.
Instead of being made of one piece of tape the attaching loop may, if desired, consist of a strip of leather.
I am aware that it is not new to combine two metallic fastening members with a strap which passes through a link to which one of said members is attached, the said members being adapted to be locked together; also that it is not new to combine two separate engaging fastening members; also that it is not new to combine a member having a struck out bar with a member having an in tegral spring hook for engaging the same. Therefore I do not broadly claim any of these devices or combinations. But
I claim l. A fastening member comprising a wire link, a plate pivotally secured thereto and provided with slots and an integral hook be tween said slots, said hook having an inwardly presented resilient tip, in combination with a strap of flexible material passed through said slots and said wire link, and a slotted keeper carried by said strap and having a raised bar adapted to be passed over said hook, the distance between the tip of said hook and said plate being less than the thickness of said bar, substantially as set forth.
2. In a fastening member, the combination of an attaching link of suitable material and a plate pivotally connected thereto and provided with a resilient hook, with a strap of flexible material passed through said link and attached to said late and a In testimon whereof I have sinned m u 9 o n b keeper carried by said strap and having a name to this specification 1n the presence of part adapted to be passed over said hook, two subscribing Witnesses.
said hook having a tip which is inwardly RUDOLF BORBERG. [L.s.] 5 presented and at a less distance from said \Vitnesses:
plate than the thickness of said part, sub- HELEN NUFER,
stantially as set forth. ALBERT NUFER.
