SAMUEL MOYER, OF COLUIVIBIANA, OHIO.
PAN-LIFTER.
tldltitl 7M5.
Application filed June $.20. 1911.
3e it lcuowu that l. tiaalunn lllornu, a eitizen ot the United States, resii'ling at lumbiana. in the rount'y o'l' t olnmbiana and State o't t)hio. have invented eertain new amt uselul Improvements in lan-il ii'lters ot whieh the :tollmving is a speeitieation.
My invention relates to improvements in pan litters. and has tor its leading objeet the provision of a simple and inexpensive deviee which will readily grasp and litt a hot pan without burning the lingers.
1\ turther objeet oi the invention is the provision ot an improved artiele litter which ean be readily snapped onto or re- ]\10\"tt' l 'trom a pan or like rimmed deviee tor litting and moving the same.
Other objeets and advantages t my inventien will be readily ap nirent treat the :tollowing deseriptiou taken in eonneetion with the i'lrawings and it will be understood that I may make any modilieations in oontil l'llt'vt l lll within -the seope ot my rlain'ls without ijleparting "From or exeeialing the spirit ol the invention.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation ot one form of my pan litter applied to a pan. .llig. 2 represents a. top plan view thereo't, lllig. 3 represents a side elevation 01? a slightly modified eonstruetimi o't. litter. Fig. t represents a vertical seetional view of the same. Fig. 5 represents a top plan view of the modified (construction, and Fig. (i represents a perspeetive view of the metal cap portion.
l n the drawings, the numeral t t lesignates a pan having the laterally projeeting rim 2 under which fit the ends lof the hooks 5 :tormed at: the ower ends of the inclined arms (3 of my deviee, said arms being preterably formed from U shaped spring wire members crossing each other at the top at:- right angles.
In the form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 and 2, I have soldered the members at their intersection 7. while a distanee below the said upper ends I solder to the arms 6 the ring 8, the arms having the outwarr lly curving otl'sets 9 formed therein below said ring to throw the lower portion of the arms outward and flaring from each other, while the portions above the ring 9 are substan- Speoifleation of Letters Patent.
tially parallel,
atentethl H1103, 1913.
Serial No. 634.333.
In the other term of my invention which I, have illustrated in plate ot' the rather tedious aml expensive proves-s ot' soldering a ring around the upper portions ot the arms (3, l stamp t'rom tin or other inexpensive metal the eone shaped eap ill) having the slots ll ttormed near its lower edge, the portion ot' the metal below the slot; being pressed outward to provide the otlset 12, the arms (3 passing around the member 10 and down through the slots t1 and having the bands or shoulders I133 formed to engage the lower edge ol' the eone to prevent downward movement thereot and look the cone and wires together. It desired, the apex ot the eone may be termed with the recess 1-! into whieh the erossing portion of the wires tit, while in either term of my invention I may provide the loop formed by making a twist in the upper end of one of the wires to insure a better hold for lilting the deviee and pan engaged thereby or for hanging up the litter when not in use.
From the t'oregoing deseription taken in eonneetion with the drawings, the essential leatures of my invention will be readily understoml. and it will be seen that I have provided an improved plate litter in whieh the jaws ean be readily sprung apart: to fit over the rim of a plate or a pan to engage and li'lt the same and whieh may he also readily sprung apart to lisengage the jaws.
I elaim:
A pan litter. comprisin a eonieal shaped metal member having otl'sets Formed in its lower portion, slots ttormed in said member above the ollsets, members passing over said eone and down through the slots. said members having outwardly bent portions engaglug the lower edge of the ell-sets to secure the eonieal member upon said members and having reversely bent lower ends to provide iaws for engaging the rim ot a pan, the upper ends ot. said members being twisted together. a reeess 'torn'led in the apex of the eone to reeeive the twists of said members.
In testimony whereof I a'tiix my signature, in the presenee (it two witnesses.
SAMUEL MOYER.
