To aU whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FLOYD J. BELL, a citizen of the United States of Amenca, residing at Meadville, in the county of Crawford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cork-Removers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to bottle seals, and more particularly to devices that are adapted to remove the same from a bottle.
The object of this invention is to providel a` simple device that will remove the seal from a bottle without aid of any foreign or specially constructed implement.
Another object of this invention is to provide a seal remover for a bottle that is positioned between the cap and the disk on the inside of the cap which completes they sealing of the bottle and extends from under said cap and lies snugly upon the outside of the same, thereby roviding a device which is not likely to be engaged by any foreign object or be any more cumbersome than a bottle which is not provided with the same.
A. still further object of this invention is the production of a seal remover which is positioned as above described which engages the cap and the sealing disk on the inside of the cap across the central portions thereof so as to obviate any chance of the device from slipping" or being accidentally re` moved from disk.
A still further object of this invention is the production of a device of the kind above described which is simple in construction, efficient in operation, and consists of the minimum number of parts.
In the accompanying drawing -Figure 1 is a vertical section of the top end of the neck of the usual bottleV with the seal mounted thereon and the improved seal remover in engagement therewith. Fig. 2 is an inverted view of the seal remover shown applied to a cap. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the improved remover in the position which it will assume when it is desired to remove tween the cap and sealing the seal from a bottle. Fig. 4 is a perspec' Referring to the parts by reference numerals 10 designates the neck of a bottle which is provided with the usual beads 11 and 12 formed adjacent the top edge thereof, thus providing the usual circumferential groove 13. The usual seal for a bottle is shown and the holder or cap is designated by the numeral 14 and the sealing member which is positioned on the inside of the cap and engages the top edge of the bottle as designated by 15. This sealing disk is usually formed of cork.
The improved seal remover is formed of a single strand of wire and has laterally extending parallel fingers 16 positioned between the holder or metallic cap 14 and the sealing disk 15 and engages said disk and cap across the central portions thereof to prevent any accidental removal of the members at the edge of the disk 15. These parallel fingers l16 terminate at one end in the loop or jaw member 17 which comprise an inner member 18 which is positioned on the inside of the metallic holder or cap to the outer member 19 which is positioned on the outside of the metallic holder or cap, these said members 19 follow the upper surface thereof. The strand extends to form the lifting loop 20 which normally conforms in contour to the shape of the cap 14 so as to rest snugly thereon. As shown in `F ig. 1 this finger engaging loo xls bent downwardly on the opposite slde of the holder or cap from that of the jaw 17 and thus there are no projecting members which are liable to en age a foreign object and loosen the holder rom the cap and in many cases remove the seal from the bottle.
What is claimed as new, is
1. A pulling device for bottle-caps formed from a single strand of wire and comprising a U-shaped jaw, an integral lifting loop extending from said jaw, said U-shaped jaw adapted to clamp on the annular flange of a vcap whereby a cap may be lifted from engagement with a bottle by drawing upon said loop, said 'jaw being adapted to 1mpart a direct pull upon a cap thereby pre.- venting the device from being pulled from engagement with a cap.
2. Apulling device for bottle-caps formed from a single strand of Wire comprising parallel fingers, said fingers adapted to fit within a bottle cap, integral U-shaped jaws formed upon said fin rs, said jaws terminnting in un integral ifting loop, said jaws udnpted to t over und clump upon the nnnulm rim of n bottle cup, saidy loop being ndnited to be drawn upwnrdl to causo sui jnws to im nrt n direct pul to u cap by snid jaws` w iereby snd jaws will lift n en from engagement with n bottle without being bent out of shape. i
