WTED STATE PATENT @FFIQF.
ROBERT A. LUKE, OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA.
TRACE-END $NAP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT A. LUKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the .county of Muscogee and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trace-End Snaps, of which the following is a specification.
The presentinvention relates to a harness securing means and has particular reference to certain new and useful improvements in a trace end snap.
An important object of this invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character, which is adapted to be connected with the end of a trace and serving to securely detachably connect said trace to the end of a swingle tree or the like, whereby these elements cannot be accidentally disconnected.
A further object of the invention is to so construct the device that the springs which move the locking block are entirely concealed and protected by being mounted within housings.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character, which is strong, durable, and cheap to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same, Figure l is a plan view of the device, Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the same, aportion thereof being shown in longitudinal section, Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on line 33 of Fig. 2, Fig. 4L is a transverse sectional view taken on line 7 1 of Fig. 1, and, Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the looking block removed.
In the drawings wherein, for the purpose of illustration, I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the device is shown as comprising an open frame or body portionG, upon one end of which is formed a buckle frame 7, provided upon its trans verse end portion within an opening or recess 8, as shown. a
The numeral 9 designates a transverse bar, upon which is pivotally mounted a swinging tongue 10, as shown. Rigidly Specification of Letters ?atent.

mounted upon the open frame 6 is a loop or guard 11.
The numeral 12 designates one end of a trace, which is passed through the buckle in the ordinary manner, as shown in Fig. 3. Formed upon the opposite end of the open frame or body portion 6 is a large eye 13, to receiveahook which is secured to a swim gle tree or other anchor element. Formed upon the lower surfaces of the open frame 6 are longitudinal tubular housings 14, provided upon their inner sides with longitudinal slots 15. Corresponding outer ends of the tubular housings 1 1 are closed, as shown at 16.
The numeral 17 designates a reciprocatory locking block, having reduced end eX- tensions 18, which extend through the slots 15 and operate within the housings 14, as shown. The locking block 17 is preferably convexed, as shown. Formed upon the extensions 18 are pins 19, which are passed into the ends of compressible coil springs 20, which are inserted within the housings 1 1 and held therein by pins or stops 21. It is thus seen that the springs 20 are completely concealed and are protected from rain and dust. The housings 14 are formed upon the opposite side of the frame 6 with relation to the guard 11, whereby the end of the trace may lie flat.
In the use of the device the trace 12 is connected with the buckle and the locking block 17 is moved longitudinally of the frame 6 to allow the anchor hook or the like to be passed within the eye 13, subsequently to which the block 17 is released and is held in engagement with the anchor elements by the springs 20, whereby accidental displacement of the elements is prevented.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that certain changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of thesubjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim A combined buckle and trace end snap, comprising a substantially rectangular flat open frame, one end of which serves as a buckle frame and the opposite end as a trace end snap frame, a tongue pivotally connected with the buckle frame and disposed upon one side thereof, longitudinal housings formed upon the opposite side of the open frame and provided with longitudinal slots, a block having its reduced ends disposed in the housings, pins carried by the reduced ends of the block, springs mounted in the housings and receiving the pins, and a guard disposed upon the opposite side of 10 the open frame with relation to the housings to receive the end of the trace for holding the same flat and in engagement with the ROBERT A. LUKE.
