Description

IDA R. HUNTZIN GER, OF SCRAIITON, PENNSYLVANIA.
CORSET-COVER.
To all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, IDA R. HUNTZINGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corset- Covers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in corset covers, and has for an object the arrangement of means for covering the interior and exterior of a corset.
A further object of the invention is the arrangement of a corset cover formed in two parts and buttoned or otherwise secured to the respective parts of the corset by the usual fastening inserted through openings in said cover parts.
Another object in view is the arrangement of a combined corset cover and pad.
/Vith these and other objects in view the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention shown in position. Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, but looking from the back. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on an enlarged scale. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary front view of the structure shown in Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a section through Fig. 2 on line 5-5, the same being shown closed.
In forming a structure embodying the invention, a covering of any desired materialv and quality may be used, the same being formed in two parts and designed to have each half of a corset slid or telescoped therein, so that the fastening means on each part of the cover may be positioned at the back opening. The cover is preferably secured together at the top and bottom, and may be provided with yany desired fancy work for improving the appearance of the cover. Also,- each part of the cover is formed with an openwork through which the front clasps may be passed when securing the corset together.
In order that the invention may be more clearly understood an embodiment of the Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 13, 1911.
Patented May 20, 1913..
serial no. 638,307.
same is shown in the accompanying drawings, in whichl indicates a corset of any desired kind. Arranged to fit over the two parts of the corset are covers 2, 8, 4L and 5 which are formed into two parts but defining a single cover for covering the interior and exterior surface of the corset. These parts are secured together at thetop and bottom and at the front edge, whereby the same define in some respects bags into which each half respectively of the corset is placed and the securing means forced through the front edge, which front edge is preferably made with an openwork or drop stitch construe` tion 6. The rear edge of each part is provided with a plurality of buttons 7 which pass through the back opening of the corset and through suitable button holes in the cover, so that each half of the corset is entirely inclosed within the respective parts of the cover, with the exception of the lacings in the back and the clasps or fastening means in the front. All that is necessary to do to remove the cover is to unbutton the row of buttons of each part and unhook the corsetfastening means, in front, and then pull out the respective parts of the corset. The application of the cover may be made by a reverse operation.
If pads are desirable the same may be placed in position on the corset as desired, and as shown in Fig. 3. Referring to this figure, 8 and 9 represent pads secured to the .corset by lines of stitching l0 and l1. As
will be observed, the corset cover being placed in vposition'incloses the pads as if t-he same were parts of the corset, so that a more rounded and even surface is presented.
In constructing the back edgeof the respective parts of the cover, the same may be made with overlapping ends 12 and 13 for covering the lacings le. However, this maybe omitted if desired, but the arrangement of the cover in two parts for entirely covering the interior and exterior of the corset, and the arrangement of the securing means at the back, are of importance. By thearrangement of the openwork at the front edge of the cover the front securing means are accommodated, and by the arrangement of the button holes 15 and buttons 7 at the back edge of each part of the cover cover completely surround the corset halves without being secured thereto.
2. In a corset cover comprising a pair of cloth strips having their edges adjacent one another, a cloth bag structure formed by sewing three sets of adjacent edges together7 and an open edge designed to slip over the corset, one side of said open edge being provided with openings, and a plurality of buttons secured to the other side of said open edge and adapted to enter the openings when the cover is over the corset, whereby the cover is held to the corset without muti lating the corset.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
IDA n. HUNTZINGER.
