CHARLES GIBLIN, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
IRONING-TABLE.
T0 all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, CHARLES GIBLIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Tables, of which the .following is a specification.
This invention relates to ironing tables and the primary object of the invention is to provide in combination withan ironing board, a st-and which will be easily and quickly folded into a small package for sto-ring when not in use.
Another object of the invention isto provide a table having means whereby the top connecting bars of the same may be raised or lowered as desired to'correspond with the size of the person using the ironing board upon the stand.
`A still further object of the invention is to provide a simple and effective means for connecting the board with the stand, and the said board with means whereby the cloth or cove-r may be easily and securely attached to the board. l
WV ith the above, and other objects in view which will appear as the 'description progresses, the invention resides iny the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings there has been illustrated a simple and preferred embodiment of the invention, and in which drawings-'- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device complete. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view upon the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view upon the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view illustrating one ofthe cloth securing clamps for the board. Fig. 5 is a similar view of a slightly modified form of clamp. Fig.' 6 is a detail perspective view of the lower end of the legs or posts of the-stand illustrating the manner of securing the connecting bars thereto. Fig. 7 is a bottom plan view of the ironing board. Fig. 8 is an enlarged detail sectional view upon the line 8-8 of Fig. 1. Fig. 9 is a side elevation of the stand folded. Fig. 10 is a sectional view upon the line 10`10 of Fig. 3. Fig. 11 is a front elevation of the member 23.
Similar reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
In the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the ironing board, and 2 the stand for the Specification of Letters Patent.

ironing board. The board 1 is of the usual formation, but has its under face yprovided with a plurality of clips 3 which are adapted to secure the covering of the board to the said board. The board 1 is also provided,
adjacent one of its ends, with a projecting stud 4, and adjacent its opposite end with off-sets or projections 5, the purpose of both of these elements will presently be apparent.
The stand 2 comprises essentially four legs or supports 6. These legs 6 are spaced apart through the medium ofthe transversely arranged bars 7, and the longitudinal bars 8. The legs 6 are each vprovided upon its outer face with a recess or depression 9, the latter adapted to serve as a pocket for the reception of the ends of the longitudinal bars 8. The upper and lower wall provided by each of the recesses 9 coincide with the top and bottom edges of the bars 8, so that when the said bars are in posit-ion the lower portion of the stand will be effectively sustained.' The bars 7 are each provided with a preferably centrally arranged opening eX- tending the entire length of each of the bars, and the legs 6 are also provided with openings 10 which are adapted to register with the openings in the bars 7. These openings are adapted to .receive headed bolts 11, the same having one of their ends angular as at 12, to engage with the angular openings provided by one of the bars 8. The bars S having the openings through which the rounded extensions of the bolts 11 project are preferably provided with sleeves 12, the samey having face portions 13, and the sleeves 12 are adapted to serve as bearings for wheels 14, the same having their central portions formed with threaded bores adapted to receive the threaded extensions of the bolts 11. By this arrangement, it will be noted that the lower port-ion of the stand 2 is effectively sustained against movement in either direction. The upper portions of the legs 6 are provided. with transversely arranged openings, the said openings adapted to receive bolts 15 similar to the bolts 11. The legs 6 are also provided with sleeves 16 similar to the sleeves 12', the said sleeves alining with the openings in the legs at one side of the stand, and the said sleevesv are adapted to serve as bearings for wheels 16 having the legs 6. These members 17 and 18 are provided with vertically arranged slots through which the bolts 15 are adapted to pass. In orde-r to sust-ain the spacing members 17 and 18 in proper position upon the legs each of the said legs has its inner face grooved as at 20, and the members 17 and 18 are formed with tongues 21V which engage within the said grooves 20. The spacing member 18 has one of its faces provided with an ear having an eye 22, and this eye 22 is adapted to receive the pin 4 of the board 1. The spacing member 17 is adapted to be frictionally engaged by the projections 5 when the board is positioned upon the frame.
The clamping members 3 provided upon the under face of the board 1 comprise essentially a flattened `element 23, the same being preferably constructed of some suitable spring material. This member 23 is formed adjacent one of its ends with an offset portion 24, the latter preferably being provided with teeth 25. The opposite end of the member 23 is provided with an opening 26, the latter being adapted to receive a securing element 27. The plate is further provided with a central opening 28 through which projects a threaded pin 29. This pin 29 is inserted within the board 1, and its threaded extremity is adapted to be engaged by a locking member 30. This locking member 30 is provided with a threaded o-pening 31 which engages the threaded pin 29 and with a handle 32, whereby the locking member may be rotated.
In Fig. 5 of the drawings I have illustrated a clamping or securing element of a slightly different construction. In this gure the said element designated by the numeral 33 comprises a flat plate of spring material and having one of its ends secured to the board at as 34 and its opposite end o-set and `provided with teeth. The toothed end of the plate 33 is adapted to exert pressure toward the board, while the toothed end of the plate 23, above referred to, is adapted to exert pressure away from the board. The plate 33 is provided with a suitable bail or handle 35, whereby the toothed off-set portion thereof may be sprung away from the board and the cloth inserted or removed, as desired.
Uien the stand is to be folded to the position illustrated in Fig. 9 of the drawings, the Wheels 14 are rotated a distance sufficient to permit of the bars 8 being withdrawn from their pockets in the leg members 6, which permits of the free swinging of the leg members 6. Having thus fully described the said invention, what I claim is r A stand for the purpose set forth comprising spaced legs arranged in pairs, spacing bars between the legs and arranged at the lower portions thereof, the said bars having openings for the reception of headed bolts which also pass through the legs, the inner faces of the legs at the upper portions thereof being provided with grooves, spacing members having their ends provided with tongues arranged within the grooves, each of the spacing members having longitudinally extending elongated slots, bolt members passing through the legs and through the slots, securing elements for these bolt members, the legs at their outer faces and adjacent the lower bars being recessed to provide pockets, bars arranged within the pockets, said bars being provided with openings for the reception of the elongated bolts, threaded members co-acting with the bolts, and a removable top connected to the upper transverse connecting members of the legs.
In ktestimony whereof I aiiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
