To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT B Drss, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Newark, county. of Essex, State. offNeW Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Casters; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in furniture leg mounts and pertains more particularly to leg mounts employed in connection with casters.

The primary object of the invention is to provide an improved means for retaining the caster against separating movement with relation to the mount, and briefly proposes to employ a clip which is attached to the back of the foot of the leg and which hasspring arms extending outwardly therefrom to engage on opposite sides of the caster pintle and with a head or knob formed on the latter so as to limit longitudinal movement of the pintle with respect to the furniture foot.

Further and other objects will be later| herein set forth and of themselves manifested in the course of the following description.

In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, the leg l, of angle type, has, the angular portions 2, 2. latter being received in the space between the arms as shown in Fig. 3. The pintle has an enlarged head or knob 14 beneath which the arms 13 are disposed so as to limit downward movement of the pintle by virtue of the head 14 thereof engaging the upper sides of the arms 13.

The mode of securement of the plate l1 to the back of the foot is immaterial, except that the securement must be of such character as to rigidly support the plate. It will be thus apparent that since the spring arms are separable by spreading thereof that the pintle can be secured in position and removed by simply forcing same against the spring arms, which latter will spread and then return to normal position, the spreading being accomplished by making the head or knob 14 of somewhat rounded form so as to serve as a wedge in forcing the spring arms apart. The tension of the spring arms is such however, that quite a little force is required to separate same, consequently no danger of accidental separation exists.

What is claimed is:

1. In a furniture caster leg mount, a foot having a back, a top and a bottom, the top and the bottom being perforated to receive the caster pintle, a clip having a plate secured to the back of the foot and having a pair of spaced spring arms extending over the top and a knob on the pintle engageable with the arms to limit downward movement of the pintle, said arms being capable of being spread to permit the passage of the knob upon the expenditure of force exerted on the pintle. In a furniture caster leg mount, a foot having spaced upper and lower perforated portions to receive the pintle, a easter having a pintle which is provided with an engageable part, and a clip carried by said foot and extending above and parallel to said upper portion and adapted to engage said engageable part of the pintle when the latter is inserted through said perforated portions.

3. In a furniture caster mount for angular legs, a foot embracing the outer and inner faces of said leg and having spaced and perforated upper and lower plates extending Copies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,

within the leg, a caster having a pintle which is inserted through said plates, and interengaging means carried respectively by said pintle and by said foot and overhanging said upper plate whereby the pintle may be locked as against accidental displacement.
