CHARLES wnraor H UNTrNGnoN, mannssrnvanm.
INrEncHANGEABLE HEELl ron sHoEs.
Speoication of Letters Patent.
PatentedMay 6, 1913.
Application led anuary 25, 19182 Serial'No. 744,102.
To aZZ 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES WEIs,-a citizen of the United States of Amerlca, residing 'at Huntingdon, in the county of Huntingdon and State of Pennsylvania,`
have invented certain. new vand useful Improvements in Interchangeable Heels for* hereinafter set forth, for connecting. il resilient or cushion heel to the ordinary heel of a shoe and it is in connection with either one of these heels that an ice creeper can be used.
A further object of this invention is to accomplish the above results by a mechani cal construction that is simple, durable, inexpensive t0 manufacture, easy to install and highly eiiicient for the purposes for which it is intended.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specically described and then claimed. y
Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the ice creeper in connection with a portion of a shoe having a cushion heel which is shown by dotted lines, Fig. 2 is a perspective View of a socket plate adapted to form part of the ordinary heel of a shoe, Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a tongue plate adapted to form part of .the resilient heel, Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of anordinary heel with a resilient or cushion heel applied thereto, Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a detached ice creeper, Fig. 6 is a perspective View of a detached screw bolt, .and Fig. 7 is a perspective view of a key used in connection with the bolt shown in Fig. 6.
Further describing my invention in detail' with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein like numerals denote corresponding parts throughout: 1 denotes a portion of a shoe having a rigid or solid heel 2 that is recessed, as at:3 to accommodate asocket late 4. Thepla'te-4 is secured to the heel 2 y nails 5 or other fastening means and said plate has a longitudinal dovet'ailed ...socket 6 extending from the forward end thereof to a point in proximity to the rear end. The socket plate 4 has a central screw A threaded opening 7 that communicates with a pocket 8 formed in thev heel 2.
4 9 denotes a resilient or cushion heel and secured to this heel bycountersunk rivets 10 or other fastening means is a dovetailed tongue plate 11 adapted to slide into and fit snugly within the socket 6 of the plate 4. The tongue plate 11 has a central opening 12 and the walls of said opening are screw threaded. The opening 12 is incommunication with an opening 13 inthe heel 9 and the outer end 0f the opening 13 is enlarged,
as at 14.
15 denotes a screw bolt that is placed in the opening 13 and screwed in the openings 12 and 7 of the plates 11 and 4, whereby the tongue plate 11 will be locked relatively to the socket plate 4. The screw bolt 15 has a lcylindrical head 16 fitting into the enlarged end 14 of the opening 13 and said head has a small interiorly screw, threaded.
socket 17 and a transverse slot 18.
19 denotes a bar having the ends Athereof provided with prongs 20 and said bar intermediate the ends has a threaded stem 21.
The bar 19 vand the prongs thereof constitute an ice creeper and the stem 21 can be screwed into the socket 17, when the cushion heel 9 1s 1n use, or into the opening 7 when the cushion 9 is dispensed with.
'isto be understood that the structural elef -ments are susceptible to such-variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appendedclaims.
' What I claim is 1. In an interchangeable heel for shoes, the combination with a fixed heel, of a. socket plate carried thereby, a cushion heel, a
ton ue plate carried thereby and adapted to be etachably connected to said socket plate, a. screw bolt for locking said cushion heel relatively to said fixed heel, and an ice Creeper capable of bein arranged for attachment to said screw olt.
2. In an interchanfreable heel, a, fixed heel, a. socket plate attached thereto, a cushion heel, a tongue 'carried by said cushion heel and adapted to lit in said socket plate, said plate having a counter-sunk portion, a screw bolt extending in said countersunk lortion to lock said tongue relatively to sai socket plate, openin said bolt provided with a, threaded g, and an ice Creeper having a stem 15 engaging in said threaded o ening.
lIn testimony whereof I a I: my signature J. G. GooDRIoH.
