IMPROVEMENT IN UMBRELLASJ Specification forming part'of Letters Patent No. 106,082. dated August 2, 1670.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that l, NATHANIEL SEHNEE, of Hagerstown, in the county of lVashington and State of Maryland, have inventeda Revolving Umbrella; and I do hereby declare that thefollowing is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference Vbeing had to the accom panying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

The object of this invention is to construct an umbrella in such a manner as that the umbrella part shall freely revolve, when struck by any object, entirely independent of the handle; and tothis end my invention consists in constructing an umbrella the stalk of which has a swivel-joint between the handle and the umbrella, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the annexed drawings, forming a part ofA this specification, A represents the top of an umbrella, supported -upon the stalks B by the stays a a and collar c, in the ordinary manner. D is the handle, which has a thimble, d, which is hollow, and into which a projection or continuation of the ferrule b of the stalk B is in- 'troduced.V This projection has anannular groove,into which the screw d' meshes, and by which the handle D and stalk B are secured together.
Having thus described 1nyinvention,what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
Constructing an umbrella-stalk in two parts, B and D, and joining them together by means of the thimble cl, ferrule b, and screw d, sub-` stantially as shown and described.
