Description

N. G. DENNEY.
RIBBON HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 17, 1912.
Patented Apr. 29, 1913.
after/W241 rr i RIBBON-HOLDER.
Application filed February 17, 1912.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, NEWMAN Gr. DENNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Millbrook, in the county of Mecosta and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ribbon-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ribbon holders for ribbon bolts and the principal object of the invention is the provision of a simple and eflicient device of this character which may be conveniently attached to and removed from' the bolt and which will hold the ribbon and paper against displacement, doing away with pins and like devices.
Further objects of this invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the same attached to a bolt. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the cap blank before being bent around the wires. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view showing a modified form.
Referring to the drawings and more particularly to Figs. 1 to 4, 1 represents a single strand of wire which is bent into loop form, as shown at 2, and has its terminal ends extended inwardly toward each other so as to produce pivot points 3, the purpose of which will be hereinafter described. 4. indicates another single strand of wire which is bent at a substantially U-form and has both of its legs curved on the arc of a circle, as shown at 5. The terminal ends of the strand 4 are bent around the pivot points Specification of Letters Patent.

SeriaI No. 678,237.
and the yoke portion of the strand 4: is bent at an angle to the curved legs, as shown at 6. Both of these strands are connected together in the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2 by means of cap plates which are constructed of a single strip of metal 7 This strip of metal is bent in the middle on the line 8 so as to lie over both sides of the ends in U-form, one leg thereof as shown at 9, being provided with an aperture 10 to receive the pivot point 3. The opposite leg is shown at 11 and is somewhat wider than the leg 9 so as to fold on the line 12 and 13 over the side edges of the leg 9 and over the separate legs of the wire strands. The end of the leg 11 is provided with an extension lip 12 which is also adapted to fold over the end of the leg 9 between the separate strands of wire.
In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the device is shown as constructed of a single strand of spring wire 1& with the pivot points 15 soldered at the juncture of the separate loops.
WVhat is claimed is A ribbon holder for ribbon bolts comprising a spring wire loop, a second spring wire loop having its legs curved, said first spring wire loop having its ends bent inwardly in opposite directions to form pivot points, and metallic plates binding the ends of said loops together and having apertures to permit the passage of said pivot pins.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
W. G. CAPEN, N. F. DENNEY.
