PIPE-CLAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented cer-. tain new and useful Improvements in Pipe- Clamps, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which .it appertains tomake and use the same.
This invention relates to pipe clamps, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is particularly designed for use in securing a flexible hose to a pipe but which may be used for other purposes; and the invention consists in a device of the class specified conas hereinafter described and W. HUNT, a
claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a view of a flexible strip of metal which]: employ in forming my improved clamp ;Fig. 2, a cross section of a pipe and showing the method of using my clampv in connecting flexible hose therewith, part of the construction of'the clamp being also in section or broken away ;and, Fig. 3. a plan view of the device as shown in Fig. 2.
In the practice of my invention I provide a strip a of metal, said strip being of predetermined width and length and be ing preferably composed of copper, brass or similar metal, said metal being treated to remove therefrom the elastic quality thereof or what is, known as soft metal. The stripe is provided in one end portion thereof with a longitudinal slot or opening a? and adjacent to the inner end of said slot or opening with laterally directed wings a adapted to be bent, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, toformparallel cars a, and the wings a are preferably provided on the opposite sides of the strip a with aper- 'tures a and in the ends thereof with pivot holes a, and the apertures a are employed so as to facilitate the gradual bending of the strip a into a circle at the point where the wings'a, or the cars a formed from said wings, are connected therewith The end portion of the strip at, opposite that in which the slot or opening a is formed, is provided with a plurality of perforations or holes a which are preferably arranged in parallel rows and staggered, as shown, in order that said holes may be placed closer together longitudinally of the strip. I also provide a short lever b which is preferably curved and which is provided at one end with a longitudinal recess b forming a fork, the side members I) of which are provided with laterally directed pivot studs 1) which are passedv through the holes a in the ears a, and the lever b is also provided inwardly of the slot 1) with a hole or aperture b, forming in connection with the slot 5 a transverse pivot pin 6 on which is rotatably mounted an arm 0 provided at its free end with an inwardly directed hook 0 I have also shown in Figs. 2 and 3, a pipe section (Z and a hose section 6 to be connected therewith and in practice the end of the pipe section is passed into the hose section, or said hose section is passe on over the end of the pipe section, and the clamp is applied thereto by folding the strip a around theend of the hose section and passing the end portion a of said strip between the ears a, after which by inserting the hook of the arm 0 into one of the perforations or holes a" and then forcing the lever 1) down into the position shown in Fig. 2 the slack in the strip a may be taken up, and this operation may be repeated a number of times until said strip a is tightly drawn around the hose section 0 and the section d, and when said strip a has been drawn as tightly as desired the lever b is forced down into the position shown in Fig. 2 and this looks the clamp, as will be readily understood, and the hose section will be held in firm connection with the pipe section.
In folding the strip a, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. the end portion (1 thereof overlaps the opposite end portion a in which the slot a is formed, and the hook c at the end of latter compressed on the pipe" the arm c-when passed through one of the sections on said tubular member in the manrer shown and described, and my improved c-lampmay also be used in what is known as making ground connections for electric wires and for many other purposes.
Having fullydescribed my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is j 1. A clamp device of the class described comprising a strip of flexible metal, one end portion of which is provided with perforalions and the other end portion of which is provided with a longitudinal slot adjacent to which are projecting parallel ears having apertures formed therein at the base thereo a lever pivoted tween said ears, and an arm pivoted to said lever and provided at a hook adapted to enter pivoted to. said lever and provided at its free end with a hook adapted .to be passed through said perforations.
3. A clamp device ofthe class described involving a strip of flexible metal having staggered perforations in one end portion thereof, and parallel projecting-ears adja- -m v invention I have si portion thereof, said the base thereof with cent to the other end ears being provided at apertures which facilitate the folding said strip of metal'into the form of a clrcle.

A clamp device of the class described involving a strip of flexible metal, oneend portion of which is provided with longitulially arranged rows of perforations in staggored relation, the opposite end portion of Said strip being provided with a longitudinal slot and ad acent thereto with pro ecting wings adapted to be folded to form parallel ears. said wings being provided at the base thereof with apertures which facilitate the folding of said strip of metal in the form of r circle.
5. A clamp device of the class described comprising a strip of flexible metal, one end portion of which is provided with two rows of perforations arranged in staggered position and the other end portion of which is providedwith a longitudinal slot adjacent to which are projecting ears, a lever p voted between said ears said lever-'and'provided at its free end with a hook adapted to enter said perforations.
