TOWEL AND CLOTHES RACK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DELMUS L. Leno, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Sioux City, in the county of Woodbury and This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in towel or clothes racks, and it relates more particularly to that class of racks which form supports for the towels or garments, which are adapted I to be folded in a compact space when not in use, and which may be readily extended when desired for use.
The invention has for its object, the provision of a simple, inexpensive and reliable device of this character.
To this end, and to such others as the invention may pertain, the same consists in the novel construction, and in the peculiar arrangement, combination and adaptationof parts, all as will be more fully hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the numerals of reference marked thereon form a part of this specification, and in which drawings Figure 1 is a top plan view of my invention, the same being shown as attached to the wall of a compartment, and the arms extended. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the invention, partly in section, and Fig. 3 is a detail in perspective showing the means employed for detachably securing the drier arms in place, the parts being shown as separated, but in their relative positions.
Reference being now had to the details of the drawings, 1 represents the said wall of a compartment to which is secured, the base portions of the angle plates 2, and between the right angled arms 33 of the said plates, are clamped, the short metallic arms 4-4, by means of suitable clamping bolts 55, the said arms 4-4 being bent so as to extend radially from the point at which they are held between the clamping plates 3-3, the several arms being separated equidlstant apart so that together they will present a fan shaped outline, radiating from the point at which the ends of the arms are held between the clamping plate. Each of the arms 4, is provided at a point intermediate of its ends with an elongated opening 6, the said opening being elongated longitudinally or in the direction of the length of the arm, and at its free end, each of the said arms, 4 is provided with a hooked portion 7.
8-8 are detachable arms. Each of the arms is provided with a slot or bifurcation 9, to receive the free end of an arm 4, and is held in place by means of bolts 11 passed through transverse openings 10.
From the foregoing description, of the construction of the invention, its operation will be readily understood. Assuming that the drier arms 10 have been removed from the arms 4, and the said arms have been folded upward in the position which they assume when not in use, and it is desired to connect the arms and assemble them in position for use, the arms 4 are each folded downward into horizontal position, and the supplemental arms 8 are each in turn detachably securedto the stub arms 4. This is done by inserting the free end of the arm 4 into the slot 9, of the supplemental arm 8, the bolts of course first having been removed from the openings 10. When the arm has been thus placed within the slot, the bolts 11 are inserted in the transverse openings 10, and when thus in place, it will be noted that the bolt adjacent to the free end of the arm 8,. will pass through the elongated opening 6 in the stub arm 4, while the bolts which traverse the inner end of the slot 9 will engage the notch 12 adjacent to the free end of the stub arm 4. When it is desired to fold the stub arm 4, it is simply necessary to draw forward the arm 8 which longitudinal movement is permitted by the longitudinal slot 6, when the hooked free end of the arm will be disengaged from the transverse bolt held within the notch 12, and when thus released the arm 8 may be folded into a vertical position.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new and desire to secure-by Letters Patent is- A clothes rack comprising two angled Patented Apr. 29,1913. Application filed October 25, 1911. Serial No. 656,766.
bracket bars spaced apart and adapted to be fastened to a fixed object, a series of plates fastened between said bracket members and bent each at an angle at the outer end of said members, a straight plate intermediate said angled ones, each of said plates having an elongated slot which are in registration and each terminating 1n a hook at its outer free end, a series of bars slotted at their inner ends, pins mounted in registering apertures in the walls of said slots, each pin in each bar adapted to have sliding pivotal connection with a slot in one of said plates and the hooked end of each plate adapted to engage the other pin passing through a slot 15 DELMUS L.
