ADJUSTABLE WINDOW-SHADE AND CIIRTAIN HANGER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP L. MCCLURE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Cobb, in the county'of Caddo and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adjustable VVindow-Shade and Curtain Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to shade roller and curtain pole brackets, the object in View being to provide an adjustable bracket for supporting Window shade rollers and ourtain poles which will enable said bracket and the parts carried thereby to be adjusted to any desired extent from the top of the window frame, so as to provide for the proper ventilation and illumination over and above the curtain and shade.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the kind referred to which may be manufactured at a minimum cost, and readily applied, without the aid of a skilled mechanic.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of awindow frame, showing the de vice of this invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the slide brackets. Fig. 4 is avertical section through the same, showing the detachable pole supporting arm.
In carrying out this invention, I employ parallel guides 1 secured to opposite vertical portions 2 of a window frame, the said guides 1 being of any suitable length and being secured at their top and bottom ends to the window frame. Each of said guides is preferably in the form of a metal strap of suitable width and thickness, having the lower extremity thereof offset inwardly, as shown at 3, and provided with a hole 4: to receive a screw or other fastening device 5. At its upper end, each guide 1 is provided with a hole 6 to receive a screw or other fas tener 7 which passes therethrough into the window frame, the upper end of the guide being held at a suitable distance from the window casing by means of an interposed spacing block 8.

Serial No. 718,514.
Mounted so as to be capable of being slid up and down on each guide 1 is a bracket 9 provided near its top and bottom with two sets of guide embracing fingers, the fingers of each set being located at opposite sides of the bracket body and provided with hook-shaped retaining lips 10 which bear and ride against the rear faces of the guides or straps 1. Each bracket is also provided with a binding screw 11 passing through the front of the bracket and bearing against the front face of the guide 1, thereby enabling the bracket as a whole to be adjusted lengthwise of the guide and securely fastened at any desired point of elevation thereon. The screw 11 bears against the guide or strap, between the top and bottom fingers 10, and is adapted to deflect said guide or strap sufiiciently to cause it to bind tightly against the fingers.
In its upper side, each bracket is provided wit-h a vertical socket 12, in which is removably fitted the lower extremity of the shank 13 of a pole supporting arm 14, the upper and outer end portion of which is curved, so as to embrace a curtain pole and hold the same in proper position to support the curtain in front of the window frame. Each bracket is further provided with an outwardly extending ear 15 formed with a hole or slot 16 for the purpose of receiving one of the end pintles of a curtain shade roller, shown at 17 From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will now be seen that the roller and pole supporting brackets may be readily adjusted up and down on the parallel guides 1, so as to provide for the required amount of ventilation and light over the shade roller and curtain pole. It will further be seen that the device referred to is exceedingly simple and economical in construction, and the adjustment referred to may be easily efiected. Furthermore, the device as a Whole may be readily applied to any window frame, without requiring the services of an expert workman.
lVhat is claimed is:
The combination with a window frame, of vertical parallel metal straps terminally fastened in spaced relation to said frame and forming parallel guides, slide brackets movable along said straps and formed in their top faces with downwardly extending sockets, top and bottom sets of strap embracing fingers extending backwardly from the body of the bracket and bearing and riding against the rear sides of said straps, set screws passing through threaded openings in the front sides of the brackets between the top and bottom sets of fingers and adapted to deflect the intervening portions of the straps, shade roller supporting ears on said brackets, and curtain pole support- PHILIP L. MOCLURE. WVitnesses WM. G. ABSHERE, ROBERT F. FIELDEN.
