- specification of Lettersiratent.
Patented Apr. `15, 1913;
` Application led January 3, 1912. Serial 110.669,181.
To all whom t may concern.' i p Be it `known that I,`.Ui.Yssns;1Gr. SALLA, a citizen ofthe United` States, .residing` at Anderson, in the county of Anderson and State of South Carolina, have invented new and `useful Improvements ini Garment- Supporters, `of which rthe following1 is a specification. p
The invention relates `to garment` supporters, and has for `an object to provide a device for attachment to one garment to support a second garmentiz l Mydevice is more particularly .adapted for `attachment to the inner :side of an 4outer garment, and arranged.forconnection with anzunder `garment. to support the same relatively to the outer garment, `the. `device beingeasily removable from both garments.:
In the further disclosureof the invention,
reference is to belhad to the accompanying` drawings, constituting a ,part `of; this speciication, in whichsimilar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspectiveview` of my.` dei vice. Fig. 2 is a vertical, sectional view,
showing the same applied. Fig. 3 is aneni larged horizontal. section, taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the views, I provide a body 10 provided with bearing flanges 1.1 and havingan` end thereof provided. with teeth 12, a toothedjaw 13 being pivotally mounted on the bearingfianges 11 with the teeth thereof adapted to engage the teeth 12 of the` body 10 toconstitute an attaching memberlli, a suitable spring 15 being interposed between the body] 10 and the jaw 13 and engagingthesameto normallyretain the lower iserrated lend of ithe jaw 13 in engagement `.with `the teeth12` formed on the body 10.1.
The upper end of the bodylO is bent to form an offset portion 16, terminating in1a 1 locking head 17 cut :awaylas `shown at 18, a lug 19 being struck from the head 17 and bent rearwardly to form a bearing` 20with the offset portion 16, a ring `21 being pivot-` ally mounted in the bearing 20 and `arranged to encircle the head 17 so that whenthe ring is swung to lie in the` plane ofthe head, ithe entire surface of theihead will lie `within the ring `21.
In Fig. 2, I disclose an outer garment 22 and `an inner garment 323 encircled by the outer `garment 22. In; `the `application iof i my device `to 'the garments22-23, tosup` port `:the garment 23 `relativelyto :the gar- `ment 22, the ring 2l is passed over a button` 24: secured to theinner side of the garment 22m the usualz mannerand then, bysim ly` raising `one side of the `buttoni21,thelockingl head 17 can be swuner into position beneath` the button, to lie in the plane of the ring 211 with the .upper edge of the head 17 lying beneath the point of connection of the button 24 with the garment 22.l Thus, it will berseen that the ring 21 will be held in locked engagement with the button `24 by the head 17 and by operating the jaw 13 to move the same out of engagement withthe teeth. 12, the second garment 23 can be clasped between the lower end of the body` having the teeth 12 thereon and the serrated portion of the jaw 13 thus supporting the second or inner garment 23 relatively to the outer garment` 22. To remove my support ing device from the button 24:, the button is` tilted slightly `and the locking head 17 can then be swung outwardly from beneath the button thus enabling `the operator to remove the ring 21 from the button.
By arranging my device as mentioned, the 1 ofthe locking head being offset to provide a groove, a lug struck from the offset portion of thesuppoi-ting body, and. an attaching` ring mounted `toiswingon the said lug and seating inthe said groove,the said head at the said cut` away portion being adapted to engage the shank between the garment and a button thereof, with the said attaching ring encircling the said shank and engaging the sameonithe opposite side of the point of engagement of the said head with the shank.
`2. Ina `garment supporter, the combinaf` tion with a flat ribbon-like supporting body,
of a lockinghead formed therewith and in` the same plane of the supporting body and provided with a cutaway portion, the said head at the cut away portion being adapted to engage the shank between the `garment and a button thereoiwithV the said supportA ing body at the point of format-ion of the said head oii'set to provide a groove, ia lug` struck from the said oset portion of thev supof "a Iockinghead formed therewith and 1n l' tosecure the same in `locked position Von the the same plane thereof and provided witha cut away portion, the said headatthe cut away portion being adapted to engage the Vshank between the garment and a button` thereof, a lugintegral with the said supporting body, and an attaching ring mounted to swing onthe said lug and adapted yto ein' gage .thesaid shank and encircle the same., with the said shank interposed between the said head and the ,saidV attaching ri-ng.
In testimony .whereof I 'aix my signature Copies .of -tlisipatent'mayibe obtained for ve cents each, by-`addressing the {"Commiss'oner o'f fattents.
