UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRED D. CLARK, OF ST. JOSEPH, MISSOURI.
EMBALMERS TRAY.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, FRED D. CLARK, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at St. Joseph, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Embalmers Trays of which the following is a specification.
The object sought by me in this device is to provide a device especially adapted for the use of undertakers and embalmers where by fluids escaping from a body inthe process of embalming are caught and conveyed to a suitable receptacle.
I accomplish my object in the manner shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a top view of the device; Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of an embalmers cooling board, broken away, and of a tray thereon shown cut on line w-w of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a top view of said cooling board and the position occupied thereon by the drainage tray; Fig. at is an enlarged sectional detail, broken away, indicating the construction of tray floor, rim and outer supporting flange and Fig. 5 is a top view of a cooling board and tray with a cadaver in position thereon.
Similar letters refer to similar the several views.
In the drawings A represents an embalmers cooling board, or laying out table, and B represents the rectangular body of a tray in connection with or incorporated in the cooling board. Said tray is provided with an extension C from a corner of said body B so constructed that it fits the form of the corpse across the shoulders and down the right side of the body when the body is in place on the cooling board. A rim D projects above the floor of the tray around the outer edge, said rim being provided with a conduit E at the outer corner of extension C and with another conduit F at the outer corner of the head of the tray. The under side of the tray is provided with a flange H formed by a downward eXtenSion of said rim D; said flange begins with a thin edge at conduit F which is at the outer corner of the head end of the tray and gradually widens to a maximum height of three fourths of an parts in Specification of Letters Patent.

inch at the inner corner It, continues at said maximum height along the inner side to corner It and from that point diminishes gradually to a thin edge at point if opposite conduit F, the starting place. The de vice is also provided with one or more supporting flanges extending from said inner side of the tray to a point in line with the ends of said rim as shown by dotted lines spaced apart in Fig. 1. The flanges underneath the tray support it in a slanting position thus giving drainage toward conduits E and F. Said conduits are preferably respectively projected about an inch from their respective corners and are provided with loose collars f f which may be attached by hooks or other convenient means, the collars being suited to carry rubber tubes f f.
The device may be tilted toward the head by merely lifting the foot of the cooling board and bracing or supporting it in any convenient way and may be tilted toward the foot by elevating the head end of the cooling board in a similar manner.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-
1. An embalmers drainage tray comprising a body member and a form fitting extension thereof, drainage conduits for the fluid escaping from the body during the' process of embalming,
a rim projecting above the tray and having an outwardly curved thin edge, a flange underneath said rim having a maximum height at the inner corner of the tray and continuing thus to the outer corner thereof, the outer ends thereof sloping to a minimum and a central sloping support under said tray.
2. A drainage tray comprising a sloping bottom provided with a conduit in the corner thereof for an outlet when tilted toward the head; an extension provided with a conduit in a corner thereof for an outlet when tilted toward the foot and a rim around the tray having a form fitting edge across the shoulders and down the side.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
, FRED D. CLARK.
