Description

Sept. 8, 1931. R. E. FERGUSON 1,822,206
SURGICAL TABLE Filed May 15. 1930 Patented Sept. 8, 1931 UNITED STATES RICHARD E. FERGUSON, OF ST. JOSEPH, MISSOURI SURGICAL TABLE Application filed May 15,
This invention relates to surgical tables, more particularly for use in treatments of diseases requiring douches, fiushings or irrigations and the invention has for an object the provision of novel easily disassociated parts that may be cleansed and sterilized.
' With the wide range of use of which the invention is capable, it is believed unnecessary for the purposes of this application to 10, specify said uses, other than to say generally that sanitation is one of the aims of the inventor and its adaptability for use in hospitals, doctors ofiices, or at other locations. 7
It is a further object of this invention to 16 provide a table having a removably applied funnel and a removably applied pan over the said funnel, the said pan having a funnel depending into the first mentioned funnel, so that the joints between the several parts of the apparatus will be leak-proof.
It is a further object of this invention to provide an irrigating table of the character, indicated comprising comparatively few and inexpensive parts and which will prove cfficient and satisfactory in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully 80 set forth and claimed. v
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this application wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 illustrates a plan view of the table embodying the invention;
fFigure 2 illustrates a side elevation there- Figure 3 illustrates a sectional view on the line 3-8 of Figure 1; and
Figure 4 illustrates a sectional view of a fragment of the pan.
In these drawings I have illustrated a conventional frame 5 which may be supported by suitable legs 6 having caster or other wheels 7 and as these parts may be of any desired construction, the details thereof are not specified.
The table is preferably provided with a etired, the said standard standing by'one skilled in the art to specify 1930. Serial "no. 452mm ih rn'dle such as 8 'at each end for convenience in manipulation or for moving the same and oneendof the tabIe is providedwith a clamp 9 in which a standard 10 is adjust-ably seterminating in a book 11 which may be used for supporting the holder of the material used in the treat- "ment of the patient occupying the table.
The top 1-2'of the table is preferably metal and at proper location between its 'ends and 00 between its sides an opening 13 is produced :of such size as to create a clearance for "a funnel :14, which funnel :has a flange'or plate 15V-resting on the tab'le. "This fiangeand funnel may be readily removed for cleaning and 6 sterilizing and the said funnel discharges into a bucket or receptacle =16 suspended from brackets-or appropriate supports 17 carried by a part of the table. The bucket or receptacle -16 is supported by hooks 18 or 570 by other means which will enable :its removal from the hangers in order that the contents of the bucket maybe removed for microscopic "examination. i
A pan 19 flravingupwardlyflanged sides 20 and 21 is appliedxto the table over the first mentioned funnel and its flange and this pan isof any desiredsize and it has a funnel 22in its approximate central zone which extends into-the first mentioned funnel. The pan has upwardly extending end flanges such as 723 which with the side flanges serve to *preveirt fluids used in the treatment -of-pa- :t-ients from escaping 'fromthe pan and they insure that the said fluid'sha'l-l reach the funnel'a'n-d be discharged into the receptacle.
The end "flanges terminate in3pr0jectior1's 24 which extend outwardly and downwardly toward the ends of the "table and terminate in such relation to the bottom of the pan that their edges rest on the table to stabilize the pan and hold it against tilting when in use.
It is believed unnecessary for an underthe exactprop'ortion's 'of the several funnels and parts associated with them for, obvious- 1y, they must be of such dimensions and so co-related that the lower funnel will receive the upper funnel and that the pan will com-"" pletely cover the flange of the first mentioned funnel and rest on the surface of the top of the table in a suitable state.
I claim;
1. In a surgical table having a top with an opening therein, a funnel extending through said opening and having a flange resting on the table by which the funnel is supported in the opening, a pan superimposed with relation to the first mentioned funnel and covering the flange thereof, a funnel extending from the pan into the first mentioned funnel. side and end flanges on the said pan, and extensions from the end flanges projecting downwardlv and outwardly from the pan and adapted to have their edges resting on the top of the table.
2. In a surgical table having a top with an opening therein. a funnel extending through said opening and having a flange resting on the table by which the funnel is supported in the opening, a pan superimposed with relation to the first mentioned funnel and covering the flange thereof, a funnel extending from the pan into the first mentioned funnel, side and end flanges on the said pan, extensions from the end flanges projecting downwardly and outwardly from the pan and adapted to have their edges resting on the top of the table. and a receptacle supported under the said funnels.
3. Tn a surgical table having a top with an opening therein, a funnel extending through said opening and having a flange resting on ing on the top of the table. and a receptacle in the opening. a pan superimposed with relation to the first mentioned funnel and covering the flange thereof, a funnel extending from the pan into the first mentioned funnel, side and end flanges on the said pan, extensions from the end flanges projecting downwardly and outwardly from the pan and adapted to have their edges resting on the top of the table, hangers on the tahle under the top, and a bucket supported by the hangers.
4. In a surgical table having a top with an opening therein, a funnel extending through said opening and having a flange resting on the table by which the funnel is supported in the opening, a pan superimposed with relation to the first mentioned funnel, and cov ering the flange thereof, a funnel extending from the pan into the first mentioned funnel, side and end flanges projecting downwardly and outwardly from the pan and adapted to have their edges resting on the top of the table, a receptacle supported under the said funnels and hangers on the table under the top for supporting the receptacle.
