Be it known that l, HARRY l limo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marshall, in the county of Saline and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supporting Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in supportingdevices, and is more particularly adapted to a device which is to be used for supporting tray.

One of the important objects of the present invention is to provide a supporting device which may be used for variouspurposes such as supporting a pan used for various kitchen purposes, the device further being adapted to support a draining bag which is used particularly in pickling or preserving.

A further object of the invention is to provide a supporting device of the above mentioned character, which includes an upright, and a laterally disposed supporting arm, means being provided for enabling the arm to be readily and easily adjusted in any vertical position on the upright, additional means being provided for permitting the swinging movement of the arm on the upright.

A further object is to provide a supporting device of the above mentioned character wherein the same is of such construction as toenable the several parts to be readily as sembled or disassembled, means being associated with the upright for permitting the securing of the same on any suitable support such as a table or chair in a detachable manner.

A further object is to provide a supporting device of the above mentioned character which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and further well adapted for the purpose for which it is designed.

Other objects and advantages of this in vention will become apparent during the course of the following description.

in the drawing, wherein for the purpose ofillustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates an upright, the same being in the form of an elongated rod, the upper portion of which is threaded as illustrated at 2. A bracket designated generally by the numeral 3 is associated with the lower end of the upright and the same includes laterally extending spaced members 4: and 5 respectively. A screw clamp 6 of any conventional construction is associated with the laterally extending member 1 and cooperates with the member 5 in securing the upright 1 in a detachable manner on any suitable support such as a chair seat or table top in the man nor as clearly illustrated in the drawing.

The supporting device furthermore includes an elongated supporting arm 7, the same being preferably rectangular in cross section; A transversely extending sleeve 8 is provided at the inner end of the elongated supporting arm 7. This sleeve is of a suitable length, and the same is cut away at its respective ends to provide a pair of opposed substantially semi-circular portions 9 and 10. The sleeve is internally threaded at its ends, and the purpose thereof will hereinafter he more fully described.

In securing the arm 7 in position on the upright 1, the arm has its sleeve 8 disposed over the threaded upper portion 2 of the upright and it is obvious that when the arm is disposed at a slightly upward incline with respect to the upright, the same may be moved vertically on the upright in a simple and efficient manner, and without causing the threads of the uprights coming in contact with the threads on the inner faces of the semi-circular portions 9 and 10 respectively.

When the supporting arm 7 is disposed in a substantially horizontal position, the opposed semi-circular portions 9 and 10 of the sleeve 8 will engage the threaded portion of the upright and support the arm in a horizontal position. Furthermore, the threads on the inner faces of the semi-circular portions 9 and 10 will cooperate with the threaded portion 2 of the upright in permit ting the arm 7 to swing with respect to the upright. The construction 01" the sleeve in the manner as above set forth permits the supporting arm to be readily and easily adjusted to any vertical position on the up right as may be desired.

ZVhen the supporting arm I is adapted to support a tray or pan, the latter which is designated by the numeral 11 is provided on its bottom at the central portion thereof with the substantially rectangular channe 12 so as to {enable the outer end of the rectangular arm 7 to be received therein and prevent any tilting movement of the pan or receptacle on the supporting arm, thereby enabling the latter to be detachably sup ported on the arm. lhe pan or tray 11 may be used for various purposes such as holding kitchen utensils or various edibles which are to be prepared. lhe tray or pan may not only be used for kitchen purposes, but may also be used for numerous other purposes.

In Figure 2 of the drawing, 1 have illustrated the device as being used for support ing the bag 18, the same being particularly used in pickling or preserving. The supporting arm '5' is arranged on the threaded upper portion 2 of the upright 1 at such a height as to permit the bag 13 to be drained. It is of course understood that a suitable receptacle is placed underneath the bag to catch the drippings.

It will thus be seen from the foregoing description, that a supporting device has been provided which may be readily and easily set up in position for use, and further adjusted so as to enable the user of the de vice to have ready access to the pan or tray supported on the arm which extends laterally from the upright. Furthermore, the arm and pan may be swung toward or away from the person.

Vlhile l have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope or the appended claim.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is:

A supporting device of the class describ d comprising an upright, the upper portion there'ot being threaded, a bracket associated with the lower end of the upright, means for securing the bracket to a suitable support, a laterally extending article supporting arm, a sleeve carried by the inner end of said arm and disposed transversely of the arm, said sleeve being cut away at its respective ends to provide a pair or" opposec semi-circular portions whereby the inner end of the arm may be readily adjusted in any vertical position on the upright, when the arm is disposed upwardly at an incline so that the semi-circular portions of the sleeve are out of engagement with the uprights, the semicircular portions of the sleeve being internally threaded for cooperation with the threaded upright to permit the swinging movement of the laterally extending arm with respect to the upright.
