To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANNIE Y. CiussnY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Galesburg, in the county of Knox and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Bed-Pan, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention relates to bed-pans of that character which are composed of two parts, to-wit: a bed-pan proper or receptacle, and a support therefor, and it is purposed as an improvement over'the one disclosed in my co-pending application Serial No. 801,536, allowed February 11, 1914:.

In the present invention I have shown a bed-pan proper which. may be constructed of stable or permanent material, such as metal, or of destructible material, such as paper, pressed, molded or otherwise formed and preferably paraffined or in some other man ner made waterproof and combustible.

In my former device it was necessary, in order to remove the discharge-containing receptacle, that both members of the pan be removed, and in so doing there was always liability that the contents would be spilled onto the bed clothing. This, in fact, is a fault common to all devices which have hitherto come under my observation.

The principal object of the present invention is to provide a bed-pan one (the receptacle or pan-proper) part of which may be freely slid from under the patient, the other portion being meanwhile left where operatively positioned, to support him, in order not only to remove the pan and its contents, but further that the patient may be properly cleansed.

In this connection a subsidiary object is to omit the front end of the supporting member, in order that the hand may be readily introduced thereinto. It may be here stated also that by leaving the front end of the pan entirely free and unobstructed and by employing it in combination with a pan-receiving and body-supporting member pro 'vided with a centrally cutaway portion at its front end, a syringe may be introduced without turning the patient on his side or otherwise disturbing him-a thing which cannot be done when an ordinary bed pan is used. Other advantages accruing from the use of a pan which slides horizontally with reference to and into the pouch are that the attendant does not have to exert strength in lifting or turning the patient with one hand and arm while removing the pan with the other; the removal of the pan proper may be expeditiously accomplished: and it is accomplished without exertion on the part of the patient.

Another object is to so construct the pan proper and its lid or cover that the latter may be either placed in position or removed therefrom while the patient is resting on the support and the pan in position therein.

Still another object is to provide a pouch which is at once comfortable for the patient as he rests thereon and which may be quickly and easily placed under and removed from under him.

Another object is to generally improve the construction and increase the utility of apparatus of this character.

The invention consists. substantially, in the constructions and combinations hereinafter described and claimed.

In carrying out the objects of the invention. generally stated above, itwill be under stood of course that the essential features of the same are susceptible of various changes in details. structure. and structural arrangements, certain practical and preferred embodiments of which are shown in the accompanying drawings. wherein:
