Description

MARTIN GAVAAUGH, or PHILADELPHIA,PENNSYLVANM.
i i Letters Patent No. 105,776, dated July 26, 1870.
i IMPROVEMENT IN nIQUoR-PUMPS;
Tlie'sohedule referred to in these Lettera Patent and making part of the same.
I,;MARTIN CAVANAUGH, of Philadelphia, county i of Philmlelpliia,` State ofPennSylvania,l have invented an Improved Liquor-Pump,'of' vwhich the following is a specification. i l
` Nature andObject of the Invention.
My invention cnsistsof a liquor-pump having a "hollow plunger-rod,V open at both ends,` and an elastic plunger adapted tojthe Vsaid rod, and arranged to be l expanded' or contracted by means o f a nut,all of which will `be fully described hereafter.
Description, of the Aixam/partying Drawing. `Figurel is a sectional view of my improved liquorpump; and
" said hollow rod, and 'a nut, k' which can be soV turned as to ompress the yielding. plunger, and thus expand itlaterally into the tubnlaroase A, orthenut may be turnedin the `contrary direction, so as to permitA the l plunger to contract andfwork loosely inV the tubular case. l i i ln `using the pump is grasped by one hand, while the plungerfrod is worked with the other, the hooks or handles, m m, of the rod, being 'caught by two iingers, as 'shown in fig. 2, and the thumb being held against the end of the rod, in order to preventairfrom passing through the same Ato a point beneath the plunrer. When thepump is thus held, its operation is similar to that of an ordinary pump or syringe, theplunger-rod being drawn outward, and the liquor entering at the nozzleand passing up into the case.
Instead, however, of forcing the liquor vviolently out at the nozzle by a reverse movement oi' the lunrer as in a sriiwe it will be onl ne'cessar to D 7 o remove the thumb from the end ofthe hollow plunger rod, as shown in iig. 3, which will permit the introduction ofair, and a gentle ow of liquor from the nozzle into a glass or other receptacle.
rj he holes t' in the screw-cap h enable air to freely enter into orA escape from the` ease, thus facilitating the movements of the plunger'.
