Similgu letters indicate corresponding parts.
This inventionr'elates 'to that class ofdevices iwvherc-jv In the drawing- The letter A designates `abung, to the inner face of which isseclflred1 tap, composedjof avalve, awb i'ch -is'pressednpfby 'meansof a spring, b, against aseat,
c, formed onthe interface o faplete, d. Fromthe inner 'surface of,this"plate extends an open tube, e, whioh-incioses the spring '11,'andthe seat c is'bored ont, to'xeceive the' spout f, which extends into afliole bored `through thejcenter--ofthe b ung;
. `Theplate cl'isfastenedtoftbe'bnng,by a ange- H ning,` g, and by screws, tliejoint between it and said bung being made tight bysav backing-piece, h, (see iig. 1,) or in" anydesirable manner..
The spout fis, by preference-made inf two parts,- the outer part, t, being-,made in the forel of an elbow. and removable, so tbatthe same can be withdrawnj from thebung whenevrit may be desirable.
Figure IV represents a' central Section5-of4 this inven tion. Y i
' e When the bung is driven home in the bung-hole of af'barrel or cask,vsai'd barrel 4or caskis hermetically closed, and it can -be transported to any distance with perfect safety.
vWhen it is desired todraw off some of its contents',
the barrel or cask is turned sons to bring the'bungin a horizont-al or downwardly-inclincd` position, thc elbow. i is inserted, and, by forcing the valve abackv 'against 4theaction of its spring, the 'liquid contained n the barrel or cask is free to discharge.v
It is obvious that the elbow t' may be w-made to 'e xtend to anyf desired distance beyond the bung, solas, fo carrythe liqnid clear of .the cask or barrel. v
By theseineans a bung is obtained which is '.rcry cheap in its construction, cost-ing less than one-twentieth of an ordinary tap, and which allows of tappi-ng its cask or barrel with ease and'convenience.
I arnawa're of the patent granted to Thomas Win- `claim5 but Y v What I claim as new, andy desire to secure by Let-v whole constructed and arranged as herein shownand described.
4This specification signed by me this 23d day or May,1870. l
