Be it known that I, LoUIs E. F. WAGHTER, a citizen ofthe United States, residing in Hartford, Hartford county, State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Straps for Wrist- Watches, &c., of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms'a part hereof.

Leather straps for wrist watches and. for various other uses frequently have metal applied to them both for the purpose of ornamentation and for the purpose of keeping the strap flat. The metal bodies are usually stamped or cut out and are secured to the strap by rivets or by claws formed integral with the metal bodies. lf both sides of the strap are to be ornamented, the same operation must be performed on each side, except that if rivets are used the rivets may extend through opposite parts of the metal. Moreover, the longitudinal flexibility of the strap is generally reduced very much and the strap is more or less uncomfortable when applied to the wrist.

It is the object of this invention to produce a strap adaptedfor such purposes as that referred to which shall be free from the objections noted.

The invention will be more fully explained hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawing in which it is illustrated and in which Figure l is a View in elevation of a wrist watch and strap, the latter having the in vention applied thereto. The strap a is formed of any suitable leather or other material. At suitable intervals it is provided with perforations b, which extend through from side to side and are variously shaped according to the shape of the metal bodies which are to be applied to the strap, being intended to fit the same approximately: In each of the openings a is placed a metallic body c which may have any desired shape, but is preferably a bead ycircular in cross section so that it projects at each side beyond the surface of the strap. Each metal body c is perforated longitudinally, being usually. a hollow bead, and is secured in place in each perforation in the strap by a wire d which is passed through the strap from edge to edge and through the bead, which is preferably rotatable on the wire. By this means the ornamentation of both sides of the strap is secured at one operation and the strap is prevented from curling transversely while its longitudinal flexibility is in no wise impaired.

Obviously the strap constructed as described may be used for a great variety of purposes and is not restricted to use for a wrist watch, although it is in such use that the advantages of the invention are best realized.

I claim as my invention 1. A strap for wrist watches and other' purposes, having perforations formed therein, metal bodies placed in such vperforations, and wires passed edge-wise through the strap and through the metal bodies to holdthe same in place.

2. A strap for wrist watches and the like, having perforations formed therein, metal beads circular in cross section placed in such perforations and projecting beyond the surfaces of the strap at each side, and wires passed edge-wise through the strap and through the metal beads.
