Description
ALEXIS MARAIS, or
sr. LOUIS, MISSOURI, AssIeNOR To .IIIMsELr AND JOHN OBRIIIN, or SAME PLACE.
Letters Petegem. 105,468, metz .my 19, 1ero.
PARLORLROULETTB.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent, an"making part ot the same Teelt 'whom it 'Indy concern: V
Be it known thatI, ALEXIS MARAIS, of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis-and State of'Missonl-i, have Inadeja certain new and useful Improved Parlor-Roulette;l and Ido hereby declare that the following is afull and true description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawingand to the letters of reference markedthereon.
This invent-ion has for its object the formation of a toy in which'both old` and young may engage' for home amusement; and l The natnrethereot' consists in a circular metallic casing with conoidal rhn and serrated edges, when put infmotion revolving upon acircnlai plate within the same, and causinga marble or ivory ball within the space formed bysnill plate and casing to indicate the lnunbersmarked upon the face of theconoidal rim, as soon as the revolution of the parts ceases.
To enable those herein skilled to make and use my saidinvention, I will now more fully describe thesame, referring tothe accompauyngf Figure 1 as afront elevation, and to,
Figure 2 as a sectionalfelevation.
I construct a rotating disk, A, (usually Oi' malleable iron,) having a circular flange or rim, a, and j onrnal, a.
vAbout sad disk circumferentially is, furthermore, a metal rim, B. ,p 1
Within the samethere isV placeda conoidal rim, (3,-,V the'inner edge of which hakingrounding serrations, c, as shown in the figures.
To the inner face of said conoidal rim C, I attach, in any'proper manner, `the rubberor cork rests c', upon which the disk A, by its flange a, rests, and is retained in its proper position, when attachedgo the rim B, by means of the hand-screws b'.` v .Y
The circular-plate D is placed within said flange a of the rotating disk, and, by means of its screw-pivot d passing through the journal a', saiddisk A is fitted to revolvearound theI same.
Upon the face 4of said plate D a suitable picture or other ornamental-design may be attached, as preferred. l y
The conoidal rim C has varionsnun'ibers surrounding its face, such as 2500, 30, 80, &c., as shown in Said rim C, and the depth to which its sel-rations are cut, should correspond lin s'uch wise that a marble or small ball shallV always be supported in said serrated edges, however fast the same may be revolved.
A glass covering, E, incases both said rim and plate D', thus retaining the marble within the same.
By means of the screw-pvotdthe operative parts ot' my said device are properly supported and connected to the journal ot' a baseer standard of suitable ornamental design. f,
' 'it is evident, therefore, that, when the operator, by
means of the hand-screws b', causes the metallic casning to revolve around the plate D, as soon as the revolution ceases, the marble or ball within the same drops'in the nitehes of some of the serrated edges, thus indicating some number.
Having th'us fully described my said invention.
The rotating disk A, metal rim B, conoidal rim C,
marked with numbers, and having scrl-ations @when combined and Amade to revolve aroiind a plate, D, having screw-pivot d,- to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth. v
In testimony of said invention Ihave hereuntoset my hand in presence of-f- A ALEXIS MARAIS.
Witnesses:
WILLIAM W. HIIR'IIIEL,
