W. DENNINGS.
GAME WHEEL.
Patented Oct. 27, 1885.
INZ/EN U E 5 5 E 5 dijwz fl w/m gi 014% @A UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM DENNINGS, OF NATIONAL MILITARY HOME, DAYTON, OHIO.
GAME-WHEEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 329,372, dated October 27,1885.
Application filed August 7, 1885.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, \VILLIAM DENNINGS, a citizen of the United States, residing at National Military Home, Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Game Wheels; and I do hereby declare that the following isafull, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Myinvention relates to improvements in a patented game-wheel for which Letters Patent were issued to me on the 23d day of May, A. D. 1882, and numbered 258,387; and said improvements consist of a bell-alarm and a dial with a hand, in combination with the opera tive parts, as will be fully hereinafter set forth. The objects are to more readily expose the numbers to view and to indicate any movement of the machine by the alarnrbell. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is a front elevation of the game wheel with portions removed to exhibit the intenor.
A is the base, to which is attached the hollow casing D. To the base is attached a rectangular block, N, and to the front and rear surfaces, at the center of the block, are attached posts I).
P is a shaft to which the wheel B and cogwheel S are rigidly attached. This shaft has bearings within the aforesaid parts. The near end of the shaft is flattened, and to it is attached the pointer L.
K is a dial-platea part of which only is shown-which is attached to the case, and has a series of numbers in definite spaces about its edge, over which may be placed a glass. The pawl E is provided with teeth to engage the wheel S, and is pivoted to the post b. The
Serial No. 173,805.. (No model.)
lever F or pull is pivoted to the pawl, and between a pin on the inner end and the case, in which it has a bearing, is a spiral spring, G. This spring throws the pawl out of contact with the cog-wheel. On the inner surface of the pawl is a pin, O, (shown by a circular dotted line,) which engages the lever H, which carries the bell-hammer. This lever is sup ported on a pivot in a bearing resting on the block N. Beneath a horizontal projection of this lever is placed a spiral coil, I, or other spring, to hold the hammer out of contact with the bell J, which is held on a post attached to the case at the top. The leverpasses through an orifice near the top of the case and the backward movement is arrested thereby.
In the operation of the machine the wheel B is rotated by drawing the pull outwardly and bringing the pawl in contact with the cog-v wheel. The pull is then released, and the spiral spring will cause the pawl to release itself from the cog-wheel, which will have the effect to revolve the wheel upon its axis. The backward movement caused by the recoil of the spring, causes the pin of the pawl to engage the lever, and thereby the bell is struck, and the wheel is caused to rotate, thereby carrying the hand over the dial to some number marked thereon.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat-- cut, is
In a game-wheel, the combination of the pawl E, with teeth and pin 0, the wheel S, pointer L, and dial, the pull F, with spiral spring, lever H, spring I, and bell, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM DENNINGS.
