To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK 10. ETERSON, a citizen offthe United States, residing at Moorland, Iowa, have invented new and use ful improvements in Sanitary Coverings for Seats, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to water-closets'and has for its objectthe provision of an attachment which can be placed over the seat of the closet to form a clean and sanitary contact surface and'which, subsequently, can be deposited in the closet bowl and disposed of when the closet is flushed.

To this end the attachment or temporary covering for the closet seat is made ot 'thin paper, or other suitable material, shaped to fit the closet seat, and cut or perforated to insure cert-ain advantageous results hereinafter set forth more in detail.

Figure l of the drawings is a plan view ot a single sheet of paper suitable for use as the closet covering, and Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same.

In the construction shown, the sheet of paper is of rounded outline, conforming substantially to the rounded top of a watercloset seat. But at the rear the paper is notched at l and 2 and has a. protruding extension 3, the sides of which converge, so

that the extension may be slipped between the hinges of the closet cover and there serve as an anchor or retaining device to prevent the paper when placed on the seat.

The central portion of the paper blank is cnt or perforated so that it may be folded down to form an opening conforming in shape with the opening in the closet seat, and

After the cutting or perforating operations, there still remains a continuous narrow strip ot paper 4 completely covering the contact surface of the seat, this strip being preferably as narrow as isconsistent with full protection, so that there may be no excess of paper tobe disposed of by the closet when the closet is ushed into the sewer.

The tongue 7, when pressed down into contact with the water normally standing in the bowl, forms an anchor to hold the sheet in position, and, subsequently, when the closet is iiushed, may have the additional function of pulling down on the entire sheet, thereby drawing it through the opening in the seatinto the water of the bowl, so that it may be carried ott through the soil pipe.

By making the sheet of the particular i shape herein set forth in detail, full protection is insured, with a minimum of paper tobe disposed ot through the closet.

A hygienic covering for water closet seats consisting of a sheet of thin paper, the outline of said sheet shaped to fit the curved outline ot1 the closet seat and having at its rear end a tapering extension, the outline of said sheet receding on veach side of said extension to form indentations with said extension adapted for insertion between the hinges of the closet cover, said sheet having in its central port-ion two elongated openings between which is a narrow tongue integral with the edge of the sheet but having at its rear end pertoratioils at which the tongue may be detached for folding down into the bowl and additional pertorations along'eaeirtv side of the base of the tongue wherehy' the tongue vmay he further freed from attachment to the outer portion of the sheet, and on folding down into the bowl, will act asa broad guard for the inner edge of the seat at the front thereof.
