Description

LEON BERNADZIKIEWICZ, OF DEPEW, NEW YORK.
EXERCISING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 21, 1913.
Application filed October 28, 1912. Serial No. 728,087.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEON BERNADZIKIE- wroz, a subject of the Emperor of Austria- Hungary, residing at Depew, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Exercising Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to an exercising device for children, and the primary object of my invention is to provide a table with a revoluble pedestal to which is connected a beam capable of supporting and assisting child to walk around the table.
Another object of this invention is to furnish a table with an exercising device for children that can be easily swung under the table out of the road when the device is not in use.
A further object of this invention is to accomplish the above result by an exercising device that is simple in construction, durable and highly efficient for teaching children to walk.
I attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the exercising device. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the same showing a portion of the device in an inactive position in dotted lines, and Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of a portion of a table in accordance with this invention.
An exercising device in accordance with this invention comprises a revoluble pedestal 1 that has the upper end thereof provided with a table top 2. The lower end of the pedestal 1 has a wear plate 3 that is secured to said pedestal by screws 4c or other fastening means. The wear plate 3 is provided with a central depending stem 5 that has the lower end thereof screw threaded to receive a nut 6. The stem 5 extends through a socket 7 mounted in a base 8 supported by legs 9. A washer 10 is interposed between the lower end of the base 8 and the nut 6, whereby the stem 5 can freely revolve in the socket. The socket is held in engagement with the base 8 by screws 11 or other fastening means.
The table pedestal 1 is provided with a transverse slot 12 and intersecting said slot is a pivot pin 13 upon which is pivotally mounted a hub 14 of a radially disposed arm 15. The inner end of the arm 15 is curved downwardly, as at 16 and connected to a coiled retractile spring l'Z, said spring being connected to an eye 18, carried by the lower end of the pedestal 1. The outer end of the arm 15 is provided with parallel horizontal apertured lugs 19 and pivotally mounted between said lugs by a pin 20 is the bracket 21 of a ring or circular support 22. The bracket 21 has a stop 23 that engages the arm 15 and limits the lateral movement of the ring 22 in one direction, it being possible to swing the ring 22 beneath the table top 2 as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2. The ring or support 22 is provided with smooth and rounded edges and a child can be easily placed in the ring or support with the ring or support engaging in the arm pit, whereby the child will be supported and prevented from falling when attempting to walk or run. The pivoted arm 15 and the spring 17 permit of the child freely moving and with the pedestal 1 swiveled upon the base 8, the child can walk in a circle and at all times be within easy reach of a person sitting in proximity to the table.
What I claim is t- An exercising device for children, comprising a swiveled table pedestal having a slot formed therein, a radially disposed arm pivotally mounted in the slot of said table pedestal and extending therethrough, a coiled spring connecting the inner end of said arm to said pedestal, a bracket pivoted in a horizontal. plane to the outer end of said arm, a ring carried by said bracket and adapted to support a child, and a socket carried by said bracket and adapted to engage said arm to limit the lateral movement of said bracket in one direction.
In testimony wlfereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
LEON BERNADZIKIEWICZ.
