Be it known that 1, JOHN Vmsnnsnn, a citizen of the United. States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soap-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in soap holders and has for its object the production of a device of this character by means of which a bar of soap may be mounted in convenient proximity to the wash basin and atthe same time positively locked in position against surreptitious removal.

A further object is the production of the device of the character mentioned which will be of durable and economical construction and efficient in operation.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

ilith these objects in view my invention consists in a soap holder characterized as above mentioned and in certain details of construction and arrangements of parts all as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

.My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1, is a sectional side elevation of a soap holder embodying the invention, Fig. 2. is a transverse section taken on line w-a2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3, is a transverse section taken on line ;I y of Fig. 1, the soap being omitted.

The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises an elongated body comprising the supporting or bracket forming portion 1, the rearward end 2 of which is flared or enlarged for rigid securing to a suitable supporting surface, screws 3 being used to effect said securing. The member 1 although illustrated as being but a straight bar, may be bent or formed as desired to adapt the same to the construction of the wash basin upon which the device is to be used.

Arranged upon the outer end of the member 1 is the soap supporting arm or member 1 extending co-axial therewith, said members 1 and 4 being rigidly secured together through the medium of the pin 5. Arranged upon the member at is the soap bar 6, the latter being tubular in form, the opening 7 therethrough being adapted to snugly resaid construction the soap bar will be locked against rotary movement. The supporting member 4 and a bar 6 are co-extensive in length. A flange 8 formed upon member 1 at the rearward extremity of the member 4 serves as a stop to prevent rearward longitudinal movement of the bar upon said supporting member. Longitudinal movement of said bar in the opposite direction, that is forwardly, is prevented by the circular stop or head 9, which is arranged at the forward extremity of the member 4. A stem formed centrally upon the member 9 fits loosely in the outer end of a socket 11 formed longitudinally in the member 4, the stem 10 and the outer end portion of the socket 11 being preferably squared in order to prevent rotary movement of the member 9. Carried by the stem 10 is a spring arm 12, the rearward end 18 thereof which is embedded in the stem 10 being bent at right angles to the body thereof, said stem 10 being correspondingly formed in order to establish a firm connection between said stem and said arm. The outer end 1-1 of the member 12 is bent upwardly or hooked in form for engagement with an opening 15 provided in the member 4, preferably midway between t-he ends thereof, the inherent resiliency of said arm 12 normally maintaining the end let thereof in engagement with said opening 15. With this arrangement, upon insertion of the arm 12 and the stem 10 of the stop 9 in to the socket 11, the end 1%. of said spring arm will automatically engage the opening 15 to effect the locking of the said stop in operative position, it being obvious that, when said stop is in operative position, removal of the soap bar is prevented.

In order to effect releasing of the spring or locking arm 12 a screw plug 16 is threaded into the opening 15. WVith this provision, upon desiring to release said spring arm, said plug needs only to be threaded into the opening 15, since by so doing the end 15 of said spring arm will be lowered out of engagement with said opening; whereupon the stop 9 will be unlocked and free for removal. Said plug 16 will, however, normally be positioned in the upper or outer end of the opening 15 in order to permit of the end 15 of the spring arni engaging the lower or inner end of said opening.

lVhile l have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into eiiect, this is capable 0i variation and modification Without departing from the spirit of the invention. 1, therefore, do not Wish to be limited to the exact details set forth, but desire to avail myself oi such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.

Having described my invention what- I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

The contibination with a soap bar, oi a tubular supporting bar having a thread-ed opening leading into the interior thereof; a threaded plug extending but part Wily into said opening so as to provide a recess in the inner portion of said opening, the outer end of said plug being covered by the soap bar; a sing for the inner end or the soap bar; and a stop member carrying a spring arni tending; into said supporting bar and having an angulurly turned end adapted to engage in said opening to lock said stop member in position, substantially as described.
