DAN B. EASTMAN, OF MINNEAPOLS, MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR TO CHARLES F. MERRIMAN, Ol1 MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
CABINET-OLOSET.
To all whom. t may concern Be it known that I, DAN B. EASTMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Cabinet-Closet, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in cabinet closets.
The object of the present invention is t0 improve the construction of cabinet clos-ets, and to provide a simple, efficient and comparatively inexpensive cabinet closet, adapted to be easily maintained in a perfectly sanitary condition.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cabinet closet of this character, equipped with a removable tank of relatively large capacity, and also provided with means for removably supporting a pail in position beneath the seat opening, so that the dry closet may be emptied from time to time by one person without the assistance of others.
lith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being understood that various changes .in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
n the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a Acabinet. closet, constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig'. 2 is a central vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 8 is a transverse sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a detail view of the metallic shield.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
ln the accompanying drawings in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, 1 designates a cabinet or casing of approximately rectangular form and comprising side walls 2, a rear wall 3 and a bottom 4, rigidly connected with the rear Speccation of Letters Patent.

and side walls. The cabinet or casing, which may be constructed of any suitable material and in any preferred manner, is provided at the front with a door 5, connected with one of the side walls by hinges G and having an outwardly curved intermediate portion 7, forming a swell front. The bottom 4 is also provided with a projecting front end 8, which conforms to the configuration of the inner face of the door to provide a tight fit or connection when the door is closed.
The top of the cabinet or casing is composed of a stationary rear section 9 and a hinged front section or lid 10. The rear section is rigidly secured to the side walls, and the front section or lid 10 is connected to the rear section by suitable hinges 11. The adjacent edges of the front and rear sections of the top of the cabinet or casing are recessed and overlapped to form a tight joint when the lid is closed, so as to prevent the escape of odors. The hinged front section or lid is provided at the edge and front edges with a depending marginal flange 12, fitting against the outer face of the side walls and the outer face of the door, and adapted to assist in preventing the escape of odors and also serving to retain the door in its closed position. The depending tiange 12 is curved outwardly at the front at .13 to fit the swell .of the door, and the hinged front section or lid is also shaped to conform to the configuration of the same. The stationary rear section of the top of the casing or cabinet is also preferably provided with depending side fianges 14, forming continuations of the side portions of the flanges 12 to make a tight joint and add to the finish of the casing or cabinet. The hinged front section or lid of the casing or cabinet. is provided with a seat opening 15, which is normally closed by a hinged cover 16, provided at the rear edge with loops or hinge elements 17 and connected to the hinges 11 by the pintles 18 thereof, thereby forming three-leaf hinges. The cover 16 is provided with an elastic pad 19, constructed of rubber or other suitable material and conforming to the configuration of the seat opening and having concave outer faces 2O to lit the same, whereby a tight joint is secured and the escape of odors effectually l il 2. ine
prevented. rlhe rubber pad ll) besides serving;` a sealing4 device is also adapted to operate as a, cushion or sound deadening de- 1ico to prevent noise When the cover is droilipcd to .its closed position.
