Be it known that I, FRANK S. Mclii'lAwi- GAL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Thermopolis, 1n the county of Fremont and State of Wyoming, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 1n Pen-Extractors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention comprehends certain new and useful improvements in pen extractors, and has for its object to provide a simple and efficient device of this nature which enables a pen point to be extracted from its holder without soiling the fingers of the operator. And the invention also a ms to generally improve this class of devices to render them more useful and commercially desirable.

With these and other objects in view, as will be more fully explained as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions and arrangements of the parts that I shall hereinafter more fully describe and claim.

For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view of my pen extractor complete; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the device with the cap plate removed; Fig. 3 is a front elevation; and Fig. i is a side elevation.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the accompanying drawing by like reference characters.

Referring to the drawing by numerals l designates a circular base plate and 1 a cap plate, between which are secured clamping members 2 and 3. Each of said memhers is provided at one end with a handle a and at the other end with a gripping jaw. The jaw 5 of clamping member or lever 2 has a convex face 6 whereas the face 7 of jaw 8 is concave. These jaw faces are adapted to receive and bind tightly against the common form of pen point. The clamping member 3 is rigidly held in position by screws 9, one passing through the aw 8 and the other two engaging opposite sides of shank 10. The lever 2 is pivotally fastened in position by the screw 11, and has its lateral outward motion limited by the screw 12. Guide strips 13 and 14: are positioned on the inner faces of plates 1 and 1' respectively to prevent vertical play of the members 2 and 3.

It will be apparent that the manner of positioning the gripping members 2 and 3 on the base plate 1 leaves a portion 15 of said plate visible and this space may be used for advertising purposes.

When it is desired to withdraw a pen from its holder the point of the pen is gripped between the jaws 5 and 8 and a sufficient pull exerted to extract it. The long leverage which I secure by having lever 2 pivoted at its end allows a powerful grip to be obtained on a pen point with only a slight pressure of the fingers in the handles 4.

From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be seen that I have provided a pen extractor of simple, durable and etlicient construction, which will make an attractive desk ornament and a good advertising novelty.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed A pen extractor consisting of a circular base plate, ahorseshoe-shaped cap plate, a fixed clamping member positioned between said plates and provided at one end with a handle and at the other end with a concave faced aw, a clamping lever provided at one end with a. handle and at the other end with aconvex faced jaw, pivotally secured at its jaw end between the base and cap plates, and devices for holding the various mentioned parts in position, one of said devices limiting the outward movement of the clamping lever.
