OF OSVJEGO, NEW YORK.
mmns'ronn.
Application filed February 23, 1912.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. Josnrn BARNttflf n a citizen of the United States, residing at "Oswego, in the county of Oswego and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in (fuindstones, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements? in a grindstone operating mechanism and the object is to provide a simply constructed mechanism for revolving a grindstone.
With theabove and other objects in view, I have invented the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device; and, Fig. 2 is an end elevation thereof.
Like reference characters indicate like reference parts throughout the specification and in the drawings, in wliich- 1 is a base upon which is mounted an upright 2, upon the upper end of which is fixed an operators seat 3; 4 and 5 being braces for the member 6 is a frame having legs 7 and 8 secured to the base 1. Upon this frame 6 is mounted a drive wheel 9, which is driven by the 10, operated by the sprocket wheel 11, which in itself is rotated by the operator by means of the pedals 12.
13 is a frame which is mounted upon the base 1 and is provided with the right angular portion l-on which is secured the shaft 15,
which carries the grindstone emery Wheel 16, this wheel being fixed to said shaft 15. Also mounted fixedly on the shaft 15 a pulley 17 which is operated by the belt 13, which isArit'cn by drive wheel 9. Similar verticallv r Jrably mounted on the frame E l is a tension wheel carrier 19 which CAE't'lGh' the. tension wheel 20, which is adapted to engage the belt 18 whereby its tension may be regulated. The member 19 is carried by Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 31, 1912. Serial No. 679,385.
l screw bolts 21 and 22 slidable in the shits 93 1 and '2 said bolts being provided with thumb nuts 25 by means of which said mem her 19 may be fixed in a desired position.
Pivotally mounted on the leg 26 of the frame 5 1 is a member 27 having a table on its upper end upon which a tool may be rested while being sharpened. The member t 1 ing pivoted by means of screw bolts 29 to i the members 30, on which are mounted the lever nuts 31 by which means said member 27 may be held fixedly atanv desired angle;
1 brace members connect the seat 3 with 1 the frame 13 whereby the whole device is held rigidly connected.
l Having now fully described my invention,
5 that which I claim to be new and desire to secure by United States letters Patent, is
! in a device of the character described, a
\ pair of fran'ies rectangularly ofiset at the top thereof, a grindstone mounted on the top of said offset portion and supported between the frames; a pulley adjacent to the grindstone, a drive i wheel mounted in said frames below said l grindstone,' a flexible belt connecting said pulley and said drive wheel, an adjustable idler pulley adjacent to said belt, a seat \m'ounted adjacent tor the frames and facing ,(he offset portion thereof, a pair of pedals between said drive wheel and said seat, a l sprocket wheel mounted between the pedals, ldriving connection between mid sprocket wheel and said drive wheel. a pivoted tool support adjacent the offset portion of the frame.
In testimony wl'icreof T affix my signature in DFOSQWJP of two witnesses.
