  • My invention relates to machine drillstocks; and the object of the invention is to devise a drill-stock which may be readily manipulated without undue exertion and which will be capable of perfect freedom of movement on the work to a limited extent, so as to bore any number of holes at any angle or angles desired, either up or down, vertically, horizontally, or otherwise; and it consists, essentially, of a drill-stock rotatably held in a suitable holder, a series of pulleys supported in a suitable frame, a driving-belt connecting said pulleys and rotatable stock with the main driving-pulley, and means for so adjusting the relative distances apart of the pulleys to vary the length and direction of the drive.

MACHINE DRILL-STOCK.

have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machine Drill-Stocks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to machine drillstocks; and the object of the invention is to devise a drill-stock which may be readily manipulated without undue exertion and which will be capable of perfect freedom of movement on the work to a limited extent, so as to bore any number of holes at any angle or angles desired, either up or down, vertically, horizontally, or otherwise; and it consists, essentially, of a drill-stock rotatably held in a suitable holder, a series of pulleys supported in a suitable frame, a driving-belt connecting said pulleys and rotatable stock with the main driving-pulley, and means for so adjusting the relative distances apart of the pulleys to vary the length and direction of the drive.

J isa vertical slot formed in the slide 9, and 7' isa clamping-screw. j is a clamping-block. By this means the frame G may be either raised or lowered to any position and securely clamped to the upright F by the screw j.

L is an idler pulley journaled on the block K.
M is an endless belt which passes from the drivingpulley D around the idler-pulley H around the weighted idler L, over the idler H to the pulley O,'formed on the spindle of the drill-stock, then around the pulley H to the driving-pulley D.
When it is desiredto drill a hole in an article located at a distance from the machine, all that is necessary is to pull upon the stock of the tool, so as to pull the weighted pulley L upwardly in its guideways. When the hole is to be bored near the machine and the pulley is carried toward it, the belt becomes slack, which slackness is taken up by the pulley L falling in the guideways K K.

the frame G is raised or lowered, so as to make the drive follow the position of the tool.
It will be found by having this machine that a great saving both of time and labor is accomplished, as the old form of drills which were operated by hand tired the arm of the workman in a very short time. By this machine much more work can be accomplished in less time without causing much fatigue, as both hands are free to force the tool into the wood, and thus a hole may be drilled much more quickly.
What I claim as my invention isl. The combination with a hand-drill having an operating-pulley, of means for driving the same consisting of a main drive-pulley, a vertically-adjustable, frame, carrying two pulleys in the rear and a third pulley in the front thereof, an idler-pulley arranged beneath the pulleys on said frame, said idlerpulley being Weighted and having a limited vertical movement, and a driving-belt extending from the main driving-pulley over the front pulley of said adjustable frame, down under the idler-pulley and up over one of the two rear pulleys of the frame, thence to the hand-drill, then back over the second rear pulley of the frame to the main drivingpulley, substantially as described.
2. In combination, in ahand-drill, a circular frame, a spindle extending therethrough, a pulley on said spindle, means for driving said pulley, a bit-holding stock at the bottom of the frame, a handle extending vertically from the frame and a second handle extending from the frame at an angle to the first handle, substantially as described.
3. The combination with the drill-stock, the pulley secured thereon, the frame therefor, the operating-handles secured thereto and the driving-pulley, of a supporting-bar, suitable guideways secured thereto, a vertically-adjustable frame provided with a depending stem designed to have vertical movement Within said guideways, a series of pulleys journaled therein, means for securing said frame in any desired position, supplemental guide-bars secured to said supporting-bar, a block provided with a pulley and slidably held in the supplemental guide-bars and a driving-belt passing around the pulley on the drill-stock, over said idler-pulleys and under the pulley on the slidable block to the driving-pulley as and for the purpose specified.

The combination with the drill-stock, the pulley secured thereon, the supporting frame therefor, the handles secured thereto, of a supporting-bar, suitable guideways secured thereto, a vertically-adjustable frame provided with a depending stem having a vertical slot therein and designed to have vertical movement in said guideways, a clamping-screw designed to pass through said slot into the supporting-bar, a cross-spindle h supported on said frame, idler-pulleys H and 1-1 journaled therein, a cross-spindle h also supported on said frame, an idler-pulley supported thereon, supplemental guide-bars secured to said supporting-bar, a block provided with a pulley and slidably held in the supplemental guide-bars and a driving-belt passing around the pulley on the drill-stock over said idler-pulleys and under the pulley on the slidable block to the main driving-pulleys as and for the purpose specified.
