` useful Iinproveinents in Binders; and l do hereby declare that the following description of my said invention, taken in connection with the accompanying sheet -of drawings, forms a full,- clear, and exact specification, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the saine.

This` invention has general reference to binders; and it consistsbessentially, in the novel and peculiar combination of parts and details of construction, as hereinafter' first fully set forth and described, and then pointed out. in the claims.

The object of this invention is the production of an efiicient, serviceable, and convenient. loose leaf binder in which the leaves are clamped in a, book for ready removal, replacing or refilling with new leaves. T o attain these o'ijecls, construct. this binder substantially as illustrated in the drawings already mentioned, in whicli- Figure l is a perspective view of a pocket card case constructed in accord with my invention. A, in the drawings denotes the bottoni cover member of the book, card case or similar container, and l-S, the top cover thereof, these parts being either stitf or flexible, as desired. The blank ot the box-Shaped retainer l) includes a rectangular central portion torniing the top member l2, back 1%, and bottoni ortion lob. The lugs on the clamping plate E lpass through theslot holes 23 and project from the ends13, 13 sufficiently to enable the clamping plate E being' depressed so thatthe cards or leaves H, can be pushed underneath the top plate l2, and removably-held in the retainer by the clamping plate E assisted by the spring F.

The box shaped retainer is secured to the book bottom by being cemented thereto, `the inside lining 19 overlapping the bottom members of the retainer D, as shown in Fig. 3.

In operation the clamping plate E is depressed byl pushing at the lugs 17, when the cards, leaves, boards Soc., H, can be placed in position underneath the top member 12 above the clamping plate E. To remove a card &c., it is only necessary to pull at t e same, the remainder of the cards being Y revented from moving by the stop G.

It is obvious that the means for holding the cards or leavesin position can be employed in any card'case, loose /leaf book,

I `nave shown in the drawings a curved blade spring, but it is /evident that other shapes of springs may e employed without departing from the ope o f my invention.

Having thus fully described this invention, I claim as new and desire to secure to me by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. A card or leaf holder, comprising, a coverhaving bfo tom, back, and top members, and a iap constructed to overlie said cover member, box-shaped retainer including top, end, a d one side member, said end members being' vertically slotted, a clamping plate in said retainer, said clamping plate having lugs constructed to pass throughsaid slots and project from said ends, said clamping member/ being wider than thel retainer top membe' to project beyond the inner edge there and a spring underneath said clamping plate constructed to support said clamping plate near its ends and approximately medially of its width.

vand top members, a box-shaped container secured to said Abottom member, including an upper, two end, and one side members said end members being vertically slotted, a clamping plate in said retainer said clamping plate having laterally projecting lugs constructed to engage said vertical slots to retain said clamping plate in movable posi` tion in said retainer, said clamping plate being wider than the retainer-top member to proiect beyond the inneredge thereof, and a spring underneath said clamping plate to support the same near lits ends and approximately medially of its Width, whereby a card or leaf may be inserted in the retainer by placing vthe same/uponv the proecting portion of said clamping plate and then depressing the card and clamping plate-simultaneously and pushing the card underneath the retainer-top member. v

3. A device of the class described, comprising a pocket formed ofvsheet metal bent upon itself to form a top, a back, a bottom, and side Walls, said side Walls bein extended forward of the top Wall, and eac of said side walls having a vertically vdisposed guideway, a plate movably mountedin said pocket and having parts engaging said guideways, and a spring having a middle curved part bearing. on the middle part of said bottom wall and having ends bearing against the under side of said plate adjacent to its side edges and adapted to urge said plate toward said top wall. A device of the class described, eomprising a pocket including a top, a back, a bottom, and side walls, said side Walls being extended forward of the top Wall, and each of-said side walls having a vertically disposed guideway, a plate movably mounted in saidpocket and having parts engaging said guldeways, and a spring having a middle curved part bearing on the middle part of said` bottom Wall and havin ends bearing against the under side of sai plate adjacent to its side edges and adapted to urge said plate toward said top Wall.
