PATENT OFFICE IBLOTTER Application filed February 18, 1927.
The invention relates to blotters.
One object of the invention is to provide a blotter having a match holding device attached thereto in such a manner as to form blotter may be conveniently manipulated.
Another object of the invention is to provide a blotter of this character in which the match holding device is attached to the blot- 1 ter by an interlocking connection in lieu of an adhesive so that the blotter in its entirety may be produced readily and at a comparatively low cost.
Other objects of the invention will appear from a consideration of the following detailed description.
The invention consists in the several novel features hereinafter set forth and more particularly defined by the claim at the conclusion hereof.
In the drawing: Fig. 1 is a perspective of a blotter embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective View showing the cover of the match holding device in itsopen is a transverse section.
The invention is exemplified in a blotter comprising a rectangular sheet 5 which is formed of relatively stiff blotting paper and i has adjacent one end thereof two parallel slits 6; and a match holding device which consists of a fibre board strip 7. The central portion 8 of the latter is disposed beneath the portion 9 of the sheet which extends between slits 6. The ends 10 of strip 7 extend through slits .6 respectively and are folded inwardly above portion 9 to form a handle whereby the blotter may be conveniently manipulated. A comb of matches 11 is secured to the inner face of one of the ends 10 by a fastener 12. The other end 10 of the strip forms a cover for the matches and is secured in its closed position by jamming it between the base portion of the matches and the said one end of the strip.
The blotter herein disclosed may be manufactured at a comparatively low cost by virtue of the fact that it consists of but a small number of parts. It may be produced readily for the reason that the handle is formed by a match holding device which is in the Serial No. 189,178.
nature of a strip that is interlocked with the blotter sheet.
The invention is not to be understood as restricted to the details set forth, since these may be modified within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A blotter comprising a one-piece sheet of blotting paper having a pair of slits extending therethrough, a fibre board strip arranged so that the central portion thereof fits against the under side of the sheet and its ends are threaded through the slits and bent inwardly above the top face of the sheet, and a comb of matches having the base part thereof secured to the inner face of one of the strip-ends and adapted to prevent Withdrawal of the strip in one direction, the other strip-end being foldable over the comb of matches and insertable between the aforesaid base portion and the said one strip-end to form a handle whereby the blotter sheet may be readily manipulated from one place to another.
Signed at Chicago, Illinois, this 16th day of February, 1927.
HUGO PICK.
