BERNIE E. LEONARD, 0F ODEBOL'I', IOWA.
romme COAT-HANGER.
Speciflcation of Letters Patent.
7 Application filed August 2, 1912. Serial No. 712,946.
To on whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNIE E. LEONARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Odebolt, in the county of Sac, State of Iowa,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Coat-Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilledin the art to .which it appertains to make and use 'the same. p
This invention relates to folding .coathangers and has for an object to provide a .coat' hanger of this character having a pair of novel props which are hinged at their outer ends to the related halves of the hanger and lie snugly within recesses formed in the inner faces of the halves when the coat hanger is folded, but gravitate automatically to operative position upon unfolding of the coathanger and serve to hold the halvesspread apart to operative position.
With the above objects in view' the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be made in theminor details of construction within the scope of the appended'claim.
In theaccompanying drawing forming part of this specification :Figure 1 is a front elevation of the coat hanger in operative position. Fig.2 is a front elevation of the coat hanger in folded position. Fi 3 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 3-3 Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a cross sect-ionalview taken on the line 44 Fig. 2.
Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts, 10 designates in general a coat hanger arch comprised of two similar halves 11 hingcdly connected together at their inner ends by a hinge 12. Each half is provided on the innei; face with a longitudinal recess 13. A pair of props 14 are hingedly connected at their outer ends by hinges 15, the props being adapted to fold into the recesses 13 as shown in Fig. 2. The extreme outer ends of the prop are beveled as shown Patented Dec. 10, 1912.
at 16; Upon the props gravitating to alined position when the halves of the arch are opened, the beveled ends contact with the related halves and limit gravitating movement of the props.
The extreme inner ends of the props contact one with the other when the props are in operative position as shown in Fig. 1 and prevent folding movement of the halves of the arch. To fold the coat hanger it is simply necessaryto manually press both pro s into their respective recesses, and then f0 d the halves toward each other as shown in Fig. 2. A supporting hook 17 is secured to one of the halves of the arch and forms means for suspending the. coat hanger.
What is claimed, is i 1 A folding'coat hanger including an arch comprising two similar halves hing'edly connected together at their inner ends,- each arch having a longitudinalrecess in' the inner face, and a pair of props hingedly connected at the outer ends-to the free ends of said halves and adapted to gravitate to' alined position and contact at their inner ends to hold said halves in open position,
the extreme outer ends of said props being:
toward each other.
In testimony whereof, -I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses. I BERNIE E; LEONARD.
Witnesses:
