Description

H. ADKISON.
SUSPBNDERS.
APPLICATION FILED 11111. 30, 1911.
Patented Dec. 3, 1912.
Mental! fldrrg Mzison,
oeassa ingr drawings,
igure 1 is a perspective new of a figure .same illustratin To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, HARRY a e citizen of the United States, l'eSldHlg at -Ri'chmond, in the county of Contra Costa vide a trouser support or Suspender which is so designed and constructed that it may be' worn beneath the outer shirt so as to be invisible when the coat and vest are removed, and yet aiford a proper support for the trouser. 7 The invention consists of the partsand the combination and construction of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompany- 1n which showing the invention,
as applied. Fig. 2 is a view in elevation of the invention. Fig.
Fig. 4 is a similar view of the manner in. which the outer shirt is lsposed between the inner band of the trousers and the suspenders.
engaging links.
Fig. 5 is a detail of the button engaglng device.
In the drawings A represents the shoulder strap portion of the Suspender which is substantially of the usual form; these straps being adapted to pass over theshoulder in the customary manner.
jointed together at the back as indicated at 2, a single rigid reach member 3extendjng downward from this point of juncture. The free ends of the shoulder straps are attached to similar reach members H in any suitable manner.
- The present invention resides in pivotally mounting a pair of metal links 5 upon a button 6 which is attached to the lower ends of the reach members 3-4-4, in any suitable manner. The link members 5 are bifurcated or forked at their outer ends between the prongs 7 of which the button 8 mounted on the inside of the band 9 of the trousers :as names, or monn, oanrroama Specification of Letters Patent. Application mea January 30,1911. serial no. 605,465.

be inserted. The links 5 are designed to extend upwardly and outwardly from their pivotal mountin on the buttons 6 as shown, the forked en s or rongs 7 of the links 5 engaging with the uttons 8 from beneath.
Mounted on the prongs 7 near the outer ends thereof, is an elastic cord 10 which extends from one prong to the other across the space therebetween; this cord being adapted to pass over the buttons 8 so as to attach the links 5 to the button and prevent its being misplaced or accidentally detached therefrom.
In removing a link 5 from a button 8 the elastic cord 10 is extended so as to permit of the prongs 7 being withdrawn out of eng'agement therewith. The point of juncture between the reach members 3-4-d and the links 5 being some distance below the belt band 9 of the trousers permits of the outer shirt being tucked between the reach members of the suspenders and the trousers band 9, as shown in Fig.4; the suspenders being worn beneath the outer shirt being invisible.
.A novel feature of. this invention lies in the fact that the upward pull on the pivotal connection of each pair of links 5 tends to separate the outer ends of the links, the direction of straining forces on the belt band 9 of the trousers being thus thrown between the pair of buttons 8 engaged by the links 5. This strain being confined to this point does not exert a pull upon the band 9 of the trousers to draw the belt tighter about the waist, as do the ordinary suspenders.
Having-thus described my invention, what I claim anddesire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. A trousers support consisting of pairs of rigid links pivoted together at the apex and diverging upwardly, means to connect theseparated ends of the links with pairs of separated buttons, straps adapted to pass over the wearers shoulders, and rigid connections between the endsof said straps and the pivoted ends of the links.
2. A suspender attachment composed of inner and outer sides connected together atthe bottom, the outer side being shorter than the inner side and-provided with means for Patent'edDee.3,191%.

I located above the plane of the outer side v 1 v 1 HARRY ADKISON. for connecting it with a pair of suspenders, Witnesses: v I whereby the latter ma-ybe worn beneath the G. W. Cosme, shirt. FRED C.
