LAUNDRY-STICK.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MICHAEL G. DELANEY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of "Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Laundry-Sticks, of which the following is a speci fieation, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to a clothes stick for lifting the clothes from wash boilers or the like and to an arrangement thereof whereby lightness and simplicity of structure is combined with utility.

The invention consists in the matters hereinafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a View partially in elevation and partially in section, of a device that embodies features of the invention; Fig. 2 is a view taken at right angles to Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is an end view.

As herein shown in preferred form, a rounded stafi l carries on its lower portion a clothes hook which consists of a wire having an end portion 2 inbent and driven into the outer end of the staff, and bent at right angles and folded on itself to form a looped hook 3. The return bend 4: of the hook is extended diametrically across a suitable groove in the stick in which it is secured by a staple 5 or the like. The wire is bent into an obtuse angle at an interval from the stick and extends in a slightly diverging line from the staff for some distance and then is inbent sharply to form an upper arm 6. The latter is off-set and the resultant shoulder 7 bears against the side of the staff while the outer end portion 8 extends through an aperture in the staff and is headed do wn over a suitable washer 9 or the like.

As a result of this construction the device is suitable not only for drawing small pieces from the boiler or tub but also for picking up large pieces, and by turning the staff so as to Wrap them around the extended portion of the wire, the clothes are readily drained and moved from the boiler or tub. As the loop narrows toward the end of the staff because of the diverging line of the Specification of Letters Patent.

outer side of the loop, clothes wrapped around it slide off readily over the end of the staff when the latter is upturned.

Obviously, changes in the details of con struction may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention and I do not care to limit myself to any particular form or arrangement of parts.

hat I claim is 1. A device for the purposes described comprising a staff and a rod having one end portion inserted in the end of the staff, the rod being bent on itself at the staff end to form a laterally disposed hook, the reverted bend of the rod extending laterally from the end of the staff and upwardly in a line slightly divergent to the staff, the other end portion of the rod being inbent and secured to the staff at an interval from the end thereof.

A device for the purposes described comprising a staff and a rod having an end portion inserted in an end of the staff, the rod being bent on itself adjacent the staff end to form a laterally disposed hook, the reverted portion of the rod crossing the staff end and being upbent at an interval therefrom in a line slightly divergent to the staff, and being inbent to the staff to which the other end of the rod is also secured.

A device for the purposes described comprising a staff and a rod having an end portion inserted in an end of the staff, the rod being bent on itself adjacent the staff end to form a laterally disposed hook, the reverted portion of the rod crossing the staff end and being upbent at an interval therefrom in a line slightly divergent to the staff, the rod being inturned sharply to form an, arm that has an ofiset shoulder abutting the side of the staff at an interval from the end, and that extends through and is secured to the stafi.
