Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 12, 1906.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. BEsT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Galva, in the county of Henry and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pin-Hooks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to pin hooks or fasteners particularly adapted for catching up the lower ends of rugs secured to the arms of my display-rack for which I have a pending application, filed September 21, 1904, Serial N 0. 225,374.
It has for its object to provide a fastener adapted for this purpose which is simple of construction, cheap of manufacture, and provided with pointed ends which may be easily inserted in the fabric and when inserted will be embedded in said fabric and present no obstructions to catch the fingers.
The invention consists of a pin-hook constructed substantially as shown and described herein, and particularly pointed out in the claims concluding this specification.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention, Figure 1 is an edge view of a piece of carpet with its bottom edge looped up, the position of one of my hooks or pins being shown in dotted lines. Figs. 2 and 3 are side and edge views, respectively, of one form of my fastener; and Figs. 4 and 5 are similar views of a modified form of fastener.
While the preferred embodiments of my invention are illustrated in the accompanying drawings and their construction is described in this specification, the right is reserved to make such changes from the constructions shown and described herein as the scope of the claims hereto appended will permit.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the pin-hook 1, (shown in Figs. 2 and 3 and which is shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1,) fastening up the lower end of a rug 2, is preferably made of a single piece of wire with pointed ends. The piece is bent to form a shank 3, comprising a straight portion 4 and laterally- bent portions 4 and 4 extending in opposite directions at each end of said shank, and hooks 4 and 4*, one formed at the end of each bent portion and itself bent in line therewith, the pointed extremity 4 of each hook being bent in the opposite direction from the bent portion of the shank and inward toward the straight portion.
The modified form of fastener 5 shown in Figs. 4 and 5 is made substantially the same as the other form; but the ends 5 5 of the shank are bent more with relation to the straight central portion 5 thereof, and the hook portions 5 5 are not bent so much with relation to said bent ends of the shank.
The advantages of bending the pin-hook as shown and described are that it can be readily inserted into the material and when inserted the points will be embedded therein. The hooks may be successfully used for suspending small rugs one below another for displaying the same. They may also be used for fastening up rugs and carpets in rolls and for many other purposes.
I claim 1. A fastener comprising a shank having a central straight portion and laterally-bent end portions extending in opposite directions, and hooks formed at the ends of said bent portions, each hook bent in line with said bent portion of said shank and having its pointed end bent in the opposite direction from said bent portion of the shank.
2. A fastener comprising a shank 3 having a central straight portion 4 and laterallybent end portions 4 extending in opposite directions, and hooks 4 and 4 formed at the ends of said bent portions, each hook bent in line with said bent portion of said shank and having its pointed end 4 bent inward toward the shank and in the opposite direction from said bent portion of the shank.
