To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, VVOJCIECH J AMROG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Saginaw, in the county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to curtain fasteners and it more particularly relates to a removable clamp which is adapted to be at tached to a curtain pole, for removably securing a curtain or the like thereon.

An object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be attached to a curtain pole of ordinary construction and dimension for securely clamping a curtain onto the pole, and for quickly and easily releasing the curtain therefrom, when desirable, for cleaning the curtain or an object adjacent thereto, or for rearranging said curtain, etc.

A further object is to provide a device of this character which is simple of construc tion, economical of manufacture, convenient in application, and thoroughly efficient in operation.

Other objects and advantages may be recited hereinafter and in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a curtain and curtain pole having an embodiment of my invention applied thereto, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a slightly modified embodiment of my invention.

Referring to these drawings, in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts, in the several views, a curtain pole 5, of ordinary construction, is supported by brackets 6, and has curtains 7 extending thereover and supported thereby. The said curtains are clamped on said pole by means of my improved clamp, which consists of two members 8 and 9.

In the modified construction (see Fig. 2), the two members 8 and 10 constitute the complete curtain clamping device. The members 9 and 10 differ only by the inclusion of a depending arm 11 and an eye 12.

The members 9 and 10 are of arcuate or semi-circular shape, and are formed with eyes 13 at the terminals of the arc, said arc including more than one hundred and eighty degrees between the centers of the eyes. The member 8 is formed with arcuate portions 14 and 15, the latter having eyes or loops 16 at the extremities of the arc, and the extremities of said portions 14: and 15 are connected by elongated, straight and parallel portions 17 The member 8 is Preferably formed from a length of spring wire bent at its middle portion so as to form a loop, which constitutes a handle 18, and twisted upon itself between the loop 18 and the arcuate portion 15, as at 19. One end of this length of wire is formed into an eye 20, which engages with one of the eyes 13, and therewith forms a hinge-joint. The other end of the length of wire is formed into a pivot 20. From the eye 20 and pivot 20 short parallel portions 21 extend in the direction of the parallel portion 17, and on a higher plane than the last said portions. The length of wire is again twisted upon itself at 22, and this twisted portion connects directly with the arcuate portion 14, and indirectly with the parallel portions 21, through the medium of depending clamp loops '23. When fitted to the curtain pole and curtain, as shown-in Fig.1, the ends of the portions 21 contact with the curtain slightly above the horizontal center of the pole, and by the combined spring action of the members 10 and 23, are held tightly against the curtain, and clamp it securely on the pole, while the loops 23 and parallel members 17 extend slightly below the horizontal center of the pole, and while clamping the curtain on the pole also embrace the pole in such relation and to such an extent, as to hold itself securely on the pole, in the position shown. In practice, two or more of these clamps will be used; usually two, as in Fig. 1; and in applying them to a curtain pole and a curtain, the pole will at first be passed through the portions 9 or 10, and the curtain pole is thereafter mounted in the supports 6. The clamping device will then be properly located on the pole, whereupon the curtains will be placed upon the latter, and if they are to be draped or folded upon the pole, thumb tacks, pins or the like (not shown) may be temporarily employed for retaining the curtain in proper position until the clamping device is applied. However, if such draping of the curtain is notextensive, the same may be retained with one hand, while the clamp is applied with the other. This fastener may be applied to a curtain pole, without removing the usual knobs from the ends thereof, by springing the eyes 13 apart, so as to cause the disengagement and subsequent engagement of the pivot 20 therewith; and the arm 11 serves for an operating handle.

It will be seen that, because of the formation described, the member 10 and its adjuncts will clamp the pole sufficiently, to sustain the weight of the member 8, while in open or unappliedposition; that is, when swung upwardly on the hinge-joint 1320. It will be seen, therefore, that, having determined the position of the clamping member, it may be properly located on the curtain-rod for immediate application to the curtain when the latter has been properly adjusted.

It may be desirable to ornament the curtain by the addition of cords, tassels, etc., and when such are used, they may be secured to the loops 12, 16 and 18, since for several obvious reasons, it is not desirable to attach such ornaments directly to a curtain.

It will be seen that I have provided a device which is capable of attaining the foregoing objects, and in a thoroughly efiicient and practical manner.

I do not limit my invention to the exact details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as recited and illustrated in the foregoing, but my invent-ion may only be limited by a reasonable interpretation of the following claims.

What I claim is:

1. A curtain clamping device to be fitted onto a curtain pole and consisting of an arcuate member embracing the under side of the pole, and a curtain-clamping member hinged to the arcuate member and adapted to fit over the upper side of the pole and to clamp a curtain onto said pole.

2. In a curtain clamping attachment a curtain pole, an arcuate member extending under the pole and having eyes with their centers above the horizontal center of the pole, and a clamping member consisting of parallel portions having eyes and other parallel portions on a lower plane than the first said parallel portions and adapted for clamping a curtain on said pole, the last said eyes being movably connected with the first said eyes.

3. In an attachment for clamping a curtain on a pole, a length of wire twisted upon itself in two places and having arcuate portions extending down from the twisted portions and connected by elongated parallel portions, and a pole-clamping member formed from a length of wire into an arcuate member having eyes, the curtain-clamping member having eyes engaging the eyes of the pole-clamping member, substantially as shown and described.
