To all whom it may concern:

Be. it known that I, MARY E. ELLIOTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Maxwell, in the county of Story, State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to cabinets for holding articles of various kinds, more particularly to devices for holdin mounted photographs and similar articles, and has for one of its objects to provide a simply constructed device whereby the photographs are supported in readily accessible posit-ions, and held in position without danger of injury.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character whereby any photograph or other article held therein may be removed or inserted without disturbing the remaining articles.

\Vith these and other objects in View, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter. shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claim; and, in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved device in open position, Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation with one side in open position. Fig. 8 is a perspective vie-w of the improved device in closed position.

The improved device comprises a casing formed with spaced end members 1011 extended at their lower ends into supporting feet or legs 12-18. The side members 1011 are connected at their upper ends by an upper member 14 and likewise connected at the juncture of the members 1011 with the leg portions 1213 by a transverse member 15. The four members 10111415 form an oblong receptacle or casing, open at the sides, which is supported by the leg members 12-13. The member 15 is of a less width than the member 14, and extending between the intermediate member 15 and the upper member 14 are a plurality of rods 16, preferably arranged in pairs at opposite sides of the member 15, the rods 16 thus defining an open sided receptacle between the members 14 and 15. The member 15 thus forms a floor or shelf to the casing and the rods 16 provide supports for photographs or other articles which may be disposed upon the floor 15 from either side of the casing. Any number of the rods 16 may be employed, but generally two, as shown, will be sufficient, and will be spaced a suflicient distance apart to permit the photographs or other articles to be readily inserted and removed.

Hingedly connected at 17 to the bottom member 15 is a tray 18 in the form of a fiat shallow box, and provided with a plurality of tapes 19, preferably of elastic material, the tapes spaced at uniform distances apart and connected at their ends to the outer edges of the tray members. Hingedly united at 20 to the opposite edge of the member 15 is another tray 21 corresponding to the tray 18 and provided with a plurality of tapes 22 corresponding to the tapes 19 of the tray 18. The tray 18 folds against the rods 16 at one side and within the members 101114, as shown in Fig. 3, while the tray 21 folds against the rod 16 at the opposite side in the same manner. By this arrangement when the trays are in folded position their outer faces come flush with the adjacent edges of the members 1011 14, as shown in Fig. 3. A stay member 23 bears against the lower face of the member 15 and is secured at its ends to the leg members 1213. The trays l821 are provided with suitable knobs 24 to facilitate their operation.

Slidably disposed through the upper mem ber 14 are two pins 2526 with knobs 2728 at their outer ends and engaging in apertures in the trays 1821 when in their downward position, to provide means for securing the trays in their closed position, as represented in Fig. 4. A chain or other flexible device 29 is connected between one of the side members 10 or 11, as the case may be, and the tray '18, while a similar chain is arranged to support the tray 21. The chains may be of any required length to support the trays in any required position, and may be arranged to support them in a downwardly inclined position or in a horizontal position or in an upwardly and outwardly inclined position, as may be preferred. The chains readily fold into the casing and are concealed when the trays are in folded position.

The improved device is simple in construction, can be constructed of any required size and of any suitable material.

What is claimed is 1- A cabinet comprising spaced end Walls connected at their upper ends by a top member and intermediate their ends by the bottom member of less Width than the top member, spaced vertical strips rigidly secured to the opposite edges of the bottom member and to the top member to form the front and back of the central compartment, trays hinged at their lower edges to the 0pposite side edges of the bottom member and adapted to be swung against the front and back of the central compartment, said trays having elastic straps secured across their faces to prevent the contents thereof from dropping out When the trays are positioned against the central compartment, and means carried by the top member for retaining the trays in their positions against the central compartment.
