DISPLAY-CABINET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 15,1912.
Application filed April 1, 1911. Serial No. 618,313.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jnssn LINES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sabetha, in the county of Nemaha and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Display-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to display cabinets and more particularly to that type which is adapted for the display of packages of flower or vegetable seed.
The object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which may be utilized as a display cabinet and also as a shipping case.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a cabinet of this character employing double doors for closing the cabinet which, when opened, act to hold the cabinet in upright position, whereby the contents thereof will be in the line of vision of the purchaser.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device showing the doors in open position. Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the parts similarly arranged. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the device in open position. Fig. 4 is a transverse section through the device with the doors in closed position. Fig. 5 is a front elevation showing the doors in closed position.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 and 2 represent the side members both of which are cut away at opposite ends, as at 3, diagonal to the sides in order to prevent projecting corners when the device is supported in display position, as will be described hereinafter.
Extending diagonally across from side member to side member and arranged in substantially echelon formation are base pieces 4 which may be of any suitable number for the particular size of the cabinet, and extending at right angles to the base pieces 4 are back and front members 5 and 6. These back and front members form, with the base pieces 4, suitable compartments 7 which are divided into as many parts as is found desirable by partitions 8 which are seated in grooves 9 formed in the back and front pieces for their reception. The base pieces of all but the lower compartment are connected at the center to said front and back pieces so that these latter parts act as back pieces for certain compartments and as front pieces for other compartments.
The side 1 is preferably somewhat narrower than the side 2. Hinged to each side are doors 10 and 11, the latter of which is adapted to be folded over the former in the manner shown in Figs. 4 and 5. Both of these doors are cut away diagonally at their bottoms, as shown at 12, so as to conform with the diagonal cut away portion 3 of the side members and both doors, when open, are adapted to lie parallel with said side members, so as to support the receptacle or cabinet in inclined position. The upper compartment is closed by a door 13 and a suitable catch 14 is carried thereby which engages the outer door 11 and locks the cabinet in closed position. Then in such closed position the cabinet may be used as a shipping case for the ordinary packets of seed. The door 13 can be thrown open and back against the upper ends of the side members 1 and 2 so that the same will be out of the way.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is In a seed receptacle comprising a body having side members, the same having their diagonally opposite corners beveled to sup port the receptacle in inclined position and to provide an opening in its upper end, doors with beveled lower ends secured to the side members and adapted to overlie each other an auxiliary door hinged to the upper end of the body for closing the said opening, and a catch fixed to the auxiliary door and engageable with one of the overlapping doors for locking the same in closed position.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JESSE LINES.
