COMBINED SHIPPING-CASE AND DISPLAY-CABINET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 29, 1912.
Application filed. January 19 1912. Serial No. 672,046.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ESSE LINES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sabetha, in the county of Nemaha and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Shipping-Gases and Display-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to combined shipping cases and display cabinets and particularly to that type which are adapted to display vegetable or flower seed.
Broadly speaking, the invention consists in a packing case mounted within a suitable packing box and the object of the invention is to so mount the packing case that the seed package will lie in horizontal position in shipment and when the lid is opened, will be automatically raised to substantially vertical position so as to be readily viewed.
Further objects of this invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation with the lid raised. Fig. 2 is a side elevation with parts broken away. Fig. 3 is a similar view with the lid lowered and with parts broken away.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents a box of any suitable character having a closing lid 2 hinged thereto in the usual manner and adapted to be locked in closed position upon the box by a suitable catch or look 3. Pivoted to the side walls on the inside of the box are links 4 and 5, the latter being somewhat shorter than the former. These links are in turn pivotally connected to the sides of the package;
Connecting the sides of the package carrler adjacent the pivotal point of the links 5 and the lid 2 are flexible members 8 which serve to raise the package carrier when the lid is raised, as will be clearly understood.
The links 5 are so pivoted to the sides of the box and the sides of the package carrier that when the latter is raised, the pivotal point of said links on the sides of the package carrier will be carried beyond center so as to lock the package carrier in open position. By depressing the rear end of the package carrier, the same will be carried forward upon the links 4 so as to elevate the links 5 past center in the opposite direction so that the same may be readily lowered into position. This operation may be accomplished by the box lid independent of the members 8.
What is claimed is A device of the class described comprising a box having a hinged lid, a package carrier mounted therein, links pivotally connecting the sides of the package carrier at one end to the box, flexible members connecting the same end of the package carrier with the lid, and short links pivotally connecting all the opposite ends of the package carrier to the box, said latter linksv adapted to be thrown off center when the package carrier is raised by the lid.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JESSE LINES.
