Be it known that I, ABBoT A. Low, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Horseshoe, St. Lawrence county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mesh Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a mesh heater construction of the portable type in which ordinary illuminating gas may be used as a fuel.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and cheap construction in which the whole device is self-contained, thus providing an improved form of portable heater which may be readily moved from place to place as required.
The novel features of the invention will be more fully pointed out in connection with the description of the embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings like parts in the several views have been given the same reference numerals.
Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of a heater embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. 3 is a sectional plan view similar to Fig. 2, showing a modification.
An inclosing guard 1, preferably cylindrical in form and constructed of wire mesh, is provided. This guard may be closed atthe top either by a flat portion 2, also constructed of wire mesh or other suitable material, or the same may be left open, if desired.
A supply pipe 3 forms an integral part of the heater construction and is provided at one end with a coupling or attachment 4; by means of which the same is connected to the gas supply. The supply pipe 3 extends either a portion of the Way around the bottom, as shown in Fig. 2, or entirely around the bottom, as shown at 3 in Fig. 3, and then extends upwardly and inwardly to the central portion of the heater. The supply pipe is woven into and becomes a part of the guard 1, and provides a substantial base portion upon which the heater stands and also supports the side wall of the same.
Upon the upper end of the supply pipe 3 is mounted a burner 5 and also a deflector 6. The burner 5 is constructed with a gas chamber provided with openings through which the gas issues and burns with a flame which produces both heat and light, which is distributed by the deflector 6. The particular construction of the burner and deflector forms no part of this invention and it will be obvious that any suitable burner can be used.
It will be seen that by means of the construction described a simple and self-contained mesh heater and guard is provided which, on account of the fact that there are no separate parts, can be readily moved from place to place or from one room to another and when placed in position the supply pipe forms a substantial base upon which the same rests and also supports the guard without adding materially to the weight, the whole being of extremely light construction, which is cheaply and easily manufactured.
As many changes could be made in the above construct-ion and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention designed without departing from the scope of the appended claims, I intend that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative merely of an operative embodiment of my invention and not in a limiting sense.
What I claim is:
1. A self contained portable heater comprising a mesh guard, a supply pipe interwoven with said guard and forming a support for the side wall thereof and also a base, said supply pipe extending inwardly at the upper portion of said heater to the center, and a burner mounted upon said inwardly extending portion.
