letters Patent No. 103,928, dated une 7, 1870.
:mueven/:ENT 1N LAMP-salines. i
The Schedule referred to in these Letten Patent and inalcing part nf the sama.
I, WILLIAM READ, Jr., of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of' Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Lamp-Shades, of which the following is tt-specification.
'Figure' 1 is a plan view of one of the sides of my improved shade, and
Figure 2 a perspective view of the saine entire.
The object of this invention is to produce a lampshade which can be readily taken apart and put Itogctlicr, and `also adjusted to a large or small lampchimney and I vIt consists of a suitableiuniber oi' trapezoidal pieces, of any suitable material, the upper corners of which are provided with projections, each having four orifices, through which are inserted wire fasteners and supports, when the pieces are lapped together, as will hereinaftermore fully a'ppear.
A A represent truncated iriangular'pieces ot" paper, cardboard, &c`., which constitute the shade.
ASaid pieces are provided, on their upper corners, with the projections B B, in which are the orifices c c.
DD represent wires, ben't as shown, which wires constitute the i'astenersand supports otthe shade, fastening pieces A together by being inserted through orifices c in projections'B, when said projections overlap each other, asshon'niniig. 2.-
ivitnessesj- The lower portions of pieces A are held together by tongues 1),:onone side of pieces A, which enterslots E on the opposite Side.` t
The orifices jc'nf the overlapping insertion of wires D.
ject inwardly/'toward the center, and tit a. large or small chimney, in proportion to the distance their npper ends project from pieces-A. This feature ofV adinstability is of great import-ance, and is the principal feature of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, ,i
vWhat I claim as nem-and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' The pieces A, having projections and orifices c, in combination 'with sliding wires D, substantially as described. f Y
