To @ZZ whom t may concern Y Be it known that I, Josnrrr SCHMITT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Min- 'neapolis, in the county of Hennepin and side in the means whereby the vcomb may be placed at right angles to the brush when in use and when not in use will be folded upon the back of the brush.

The inventionV has for a further object the provision of a combination combV and brush whereby the comb is carried upon the back` of the brush and positive means is provided for moving the comb into a position perpendicular to the back of the brush for use and holding it in such position while in use, and means for returning the brush to a position engaging the back of the brush and holding it in said position when not in use.

With these and other objects in view my invention consists of a novel construction, combination, formation and arrangements of parts which will hereinafter be fully described, claimed and more particularly pointed out in the drawings in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a toilet brush showing my improved invention applied; Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1l; Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 5; Fig. lis a bottom plan view of the operating mechanism when the comb is raised at a vertical position; Fig. 5 is a similar view showing the position of the mechanism when the comb is folded upon the back; Fig. 6 is a longitudinal section taken on the line 6 6 of Fig. 4:; and Fig'. 7 is a detailed perspective view of the sliding bar which has secured thereto the comb supporting clip.

Referring to the drawings wherein like and corresponding parts are indicated by like references of characters, the numeral 1 indicates an ordinary toilet brush; having a recess 2 formed in the back thereof and a plate 3 suitably secured thereto to which is secured the comb Yoperating' mechanism. This plate 3 has a rectangular opening 4t formed therein and over` thc recess 2 and aV plate 5 is mounted within the recess 2 and spaced apart from the opening` 4 in said plate 3 by being secured to one of the flanges of angular plates 6 secured to said plate 3.

Mounted to slide on the surface of the plate 5 is a bar 7 which has secured thereto a U -sh aped spring member 8 for holding the comb 9 andit is obvious that when the comb lbecomes wornA or broken it may be removed and readily replaced by another one by insorting it between the spring arms of the i member 8.

Pivotally secured to the underside of the plate 5 are bell cranks 16 and 11 each having an offset arml. The offset arm 18 of the bell crank 10 is pivotally secured to one end ofthe operating lever 111 while the offset portion of the bell crank 11 has a lug 15 whichengages a slot 16 formed .in operating lever 1:-1. The opposite end of the lever 111 has a lug 17 adapted to slide in a diagonal slot 18 formed in the plate 8 and a handle 19 is secured to the samefor operating the bell cranks:

Secured to the front edge of the bar 7 are arms 2O adapted to slide in slots 21 formed in the plate 5 and which engage the slotted depending portion 22 formed on the opposite arms 23 of the bell cranks 10 and 11.

Extending from the ends of the bar 7 are lugs 24 each of which has an enlarged portion 25 and a reduced portion 26; the latter portion being adapted to slide in an elongated slot 27 formed in a depending portion of the members 6 thereby forming a guide for the bar 7 when sliding along the plate 5.

The enlarged portions 25 are adapted to slide in the elongated slots 28 formed in arms of the angular plates 6 and an arcshaped recess A29 is formed at one end of each of the slots 28 whereby the enlarged portions 25 when sliding in the slots 28 will keep the bar 7 in a horizontal plane but when they reach the recesses 29 the bar will be turned at right angles to its former posit-ion.

It is obvious from the foregoing that when aA comb is placed in the spring-retaining memberS and turned at right angles to the brush the comb is ready for use7 but when comb is not in use the Same may be folded upon the back ofthe brush by pushing on the handle 19 which will operate the bell cranks through the operating lever 14 thereby causing the bar 7 to slide to one side of the brush.
