COLLAPSIBL'E DRINKING-CUP.
Speccation of Letters Patent.
Application led November 22, 1911. Serial'No. 661,780. A
Patented sept. io, 1912.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known thatv I, HERMAN F. BENG- sToRF, a citizen of the United States, residing at AIVaterlOO, in the county of Monroe tions 21 and and Stato of Illinois, vhave Invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Drinking-Cups, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the laeconipanying drawing.
This invention relates to drinking cups of the collapsible type and the/principal object of the saine is to provide y'the cup with a novel type of handle which supports the eup when in use and which holds the cup in a closed position and holds the Cover of t-he cup in place when the cup is closed.
This invention is illustra-ted in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view taken through the cup in a set up position. Fig. 9. is a vertical sectional view through the cup in a folded position. Fig. 3 is a detail plan View of the cup in a folded position. Fig.-4 is a bottom plan view of the lower section of the cup.
-Iteferring to the accompanying drawings by numerals it will be seen that t-his invention comprises the. telescoping sections 10, 11 and 12, the upper section 12 having its edge rolled about a ring '13. A handle 14 hasits upper portion 15 connected with the ring 13 and has its lower portion 16 terminating in av hook portion '17. The lower section," 1.0 is provided with a' bottom 1S which extends beyond the 4section 'l0 to form the ledge 19, and eis then bent to form a second ledge 20, the ledge Q() being provided with the, oppositely disposed4 eut-out porno. When `this cup is in a folded position, the section 1I rests upon the ledge 19 and the upper section rests upon the ledge 2U. The
handleis moved so that the upper portion 15 extends along one side of they cup and through the eut-out portion 21. The handle extends across tho bottom of the eup and through the eut-out portion and, up the opposite sido of the rup. After the ('up has been. `I'oldod tho cover J3 is placed upon the upper porlion'and hasl one side inelosiug the hinged end of the cover and the opposite side engaged by the hook portion 17 of the handle.
Then it is desired to use the `cup, the hook portion 17 is released from the cover, and the cover removed. I wound around the cup and the sections drawn out to the position shown in Figi, with the vhook '17 engaging the bottom of the lower section. It will thus be evident that the saine means which holds the cover 23 in place when the cup isin a folded 'position may be used as a handle for carrying the cup when the cup is in a set upv position.
1. A collapsible receptacle having its lower section provided with oppositely disposed ent-out portions, a handle hinged to the upper section of said receptacle, a cover for said receptacle, the free end of said handlebeing .adapted to be passed through one of said eut-out portions to engage the bottorn of said reeeptacle to hold said receptacle in a `set up position, and said handle being adapted to pass through said out out portions and having its upper end engage said cover to hold the saine upon said receptacle when in a folded position.
2. A collapsible receptacle, a cover therefor, an enlarged base carried by the lower section of said receptacle, said base being The handle is then provided with oppositely disposed out out portions, a handle pivotally connected with the upper sect-ion of said receptacle, said handle being formed from a. strip of material having its free end bent to foi-n1 a hook fitting beneath said base to support said receptacle when in an extended position, said strip passing through said out out portions and up the side of said receptacle when in a folded position with its free end in a position to engage said rover to hold said Cover upon said receptacle.
In testimony whereof I hereunto allix my
