^ HITCI-IING-STRAP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 3,1912.
Application filed March 1, 1912. Serial No. 680,941.
To all whom it may concern: g
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN Gizzr, c1t1- zen of the United States of America, residing at Delinont, in the county of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new` and useful Improvements in I-Iitching-Straps, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a hitching strap, and the primary object of my invention 1s to provide a strap that can be easily and quickly placed around the horses neck for safely hitching the horse to a hitching post or other structure.
Another obj ect of this invention is to furnish a hitching strap with an adjustable keeper for a snap hook, the keeper being of such construction that it cannot slip upon the strap and cause the strap to choke or injure a restless or fractions animal.
A further object of this invention is to provide an inexpensive and durable hitching strap that is highly efficient for the purposes for which it is intended.
I attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now to had to the drawing; wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of the hitching strap. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of a portion of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of the hitching strap, and Fig. 4 is a plan of a portion of a hitching strap.
The reference numeral 1 denotes a rectangular keeper casing having the top thereof provided with a longitudinal groove 2 to receive a hitching strap 3. The groove 2 has the longitudinal walls thereof recessed, as at 4, and arranged in said slot and the recesses 4 is a clamping plate 5 corresponding in length to the groove 2 and having side enlargements 6 extending into the recesses 4. This clamping plate is adapted to frictionally hold the hitching strap 3 in the groove 2, and said clamping plate has a central vertical stud 7 that is screw-threaded and has the form of an ordinary screw.
Riveted or otherwise connected to the top of the keeper casing 1, as at 8, is a closure plate 9 provided with a central boss 10 and an opening 11. The walls of the opening 11 are screw-threaded to receive a screw 12 having a head 18 that telescopes the boss 10, said head having a wing or thumb-piece 14 whereby the screw 12 can be easily rotated. The inner end of the screw 12 has a bore 15 with the walls thereof screwthreaded to receive the lscrew-threaded stud 7, and by adjusting the screw 12, the inner end of said screw can be moved into engagement with the clamping plate 5 to retain the same in engagement with the strap 3. The bottom side of the keeper casing 1, at one end thereof, has a keeper 16 in the form of an eye or aperture lug, and the strap 3 has a snap hook 17 of the ordinary 0r well known type adapted to be in engagement with the said keeper.- The keeper casing 1 can be adjusted upon the strap 3, whereby, when the snap hook is placed in engagement therewith, the hitching strap will provide a loop 18 for a horses neck, the keeper casing being adjusted whereby the hitching strap will snugly t the horses neck adjacent to the throat-latch of the bridle. With the keeper casing firmly clamped upon. the hitching strap, the strap cannot slip and choke or injure the horse.
A strap in accordance with this invention obviates the necessity of tying the end of the hitching strap around the throat of a horse, and has the further advantage of being applicable to a rein that can be removed from the bridle and used as a hitching strap.
It is to be understood that the structural elements of my invention are susceptible to such changes as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A hitching device for straps comprising a casing provided with a longitudinal groove for the reception of hitching strap, said groove having the longitudinal walls thereof recessed, a clamping plate mounted in said groove and provided with enlargements eX- tending into the recesses of said walls, a closure plate mounted upon said casing and provided with an opening and a boss, the wall of the opening forming a continuation of the inner face of the boss, said opening in the inner face of the boss threaded, a verti- `cally disposed threaded stud projecting In testimony whereof I aiix my signature through the opening and boss and Carried in the presence of two Witnesses. by said plate, an annular interior-ally and exterorally threaded member engaging said BENJAMIN GIZZI' stem and threads, a head carried by said Vtnesses:
member and overlapping` the boss and an MAX H. SRoLoVITz,
aperture keeper carried by said casing. CHRISTINA T. HOOD.
