COMBINED LATCH AND LOCK FOR SCREEN-DOORS, &o.
Specification oi Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. eo, 1912.
' 'implication led February 5, 1812. Serial No. 675,452.
To all whom z'zf may concern.'
Be 1t known that We, JOEL T. HART and donn D. HART, citizens of ,the United vfst-etes, residing, respectively, at San An* tonic and Oalriand, in the counties of Bexar .and ilemedafnnd States of Texas and Cal ifornia., have invented certain new and usefnimprovenents in' Combined Lutches and 4i'ioelrs for ScreenDoors,. &c., and do hereby declare that the'following is o tull, clear, and exact description of the seme, reference being had to the annexed drawings, melting e partei this specification, and to the let ters :mdgures of reference marked thereon. The ob3ect of our invention 1s to provide o. simple and yet most efficient combined In the accompanying drawing-Figure 1 is e perspective view illustrating an embodi- .ment or" our invention `with 'the parts shown in locking relation; Fig. 2 o vertical section thereof; and Fig. 3 o detail View in perspectiv We illustrent-el our invention as applied for use in connectionl 'With e screen. door, the invention comprising tw'o members, one to be attached to the door jamb 10, and the other to the door 11. The member attached to the door jamb comprises a sheet metal casing 12, which Amay cheaply be made of sheet metal, which has `topf end bottom ianges 18 for the passage of screws to secure it to the jamlo with its end toward the door open, and its opposite end closed by e well 11i.v Withinsthe casing, and riveted to the Well 14, is o pair of similar, but oppositely arranged spring jaws 15 whose free ends are toward the open end of the casing co1otiguous'to which they are bent abruptly inward to form shoulders 16, from which shoulders they diverge outward, the outwardly diverging ends end the shoulders being adapted to coact with the head or enlargement 17 upon the shank 18 of the member 19, which is attached to the door 11. The head or enlargement 17 is cylindrical in form and is perforated transversely to constitute an eye 20, and the entire member is preferably made of a single piece of sheet metal bent into shape. It will be seen that when the door is closed the rounded heed or enlargement Will strike the outwardly flaring free ends ot' the spring jaws 15 and will pass between the some and interlock with the shoul- .ders 16 thereon, and, of course, the spring jaws Will ect to cushion the door in its closing movement. In line with the eye in the heed or enlargement'l when it 1s not in jew interlocking position, is n. hole 21, in the outer Wall of the casing 10, and a hole 22 in the door jamb through which alining holes and the eye a. locking pin 23 may be inserted, and thus the door locked ina closed position, should it be desired so to do.
Having thus described our invention what We claim isfM The combination of a casing, 'n pair'o shouldered spring jaws therein having out-l wardly diverging free ends, a concting member comprising a shank having on enlargement or; heed, said enlargement or head having an eye, and the cusin having a hole and e pin to coact with sai hole and said eve.- 1 u In testimony whereof We aiin our signutures in presence of two witnesses.
